“Deuscher Holzbaupreis” Award 2023 presented at LIGNA

Under the patronage of the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction, Holzbau Deutschland – Bund Deutscher Zimmermeister awarded the German Timber Construction Prize 2023 on May 16, 2023. The award ceremony took place during the world’s leading trade fair for the international woodworking and wood processing industry, LIGNA, in Hannover.

This year, the prestigious German Timber Construction Award was presented to three timber construction projects: the addition and expansion of the national headquarters of the German Alpine Association (DAV) in Munich, the construction of the new town hall in Hainburg and the new Buggi 52 residential and commercial building in Freiburg im Breisgau. The award was given equally to builders, architects, structural engineers and timber construction companies as the originators of the winning entries.

The German Timber Construction Prize is awarded to realised buildings and building components which are predominantly made of wood and wood-based materials as well as other renewable raw materials and which exemplify the application spectrum of wood as a building material.

Three timber construction projects were awarded the prestigious German Timber Construction Prize this year:

• The addition and expansion of the federal headquarters of the German Alpine Association (DAV) in Munich,
• The new construction of the town hall in Hainburg and
• The new construction of the Buggi 52 residential and commercial building in Freiburg im Breisgau.

Equally honoured were building owners, architects, structural engineers and timber construction companies as the originators of the award-winning contributions.

The 16-member jury of experts for this year’s German Timber Construction Award, headed by Prof. Dr. Annette Hafner, had 149 project submissions to sift through and evaluate.

The award ceremony then took place at the world’s leading trade fair for the international woodworking and wood processing industry, LIGNA, in Hanover.
