CUTEK® EXTREME

CUTEK Wood Solutions and SaferWood are pleased to announce that CUTEK® Extreme has been officially approved for use with SaferWood ignition-resistant wood, following independent third-party testing that verified the compatibility of SaferWood’s Thermex-FR® fire-retardant treatment with CUTEK Extreme.

SaferWood coated with CUTEK Extreme passed ASTM E2768 surface-burning testing, achieving the same
Class A rating required for code-compliant fire-retardant-treated wood and ignition-resistant materials. The testing confirmed that CUTEK Extreme did not negatively affect SaferWood’s surface-burning performance, while SaferWood’s Thermex-FR treatment did not impact the performance of CUTEK Extreme.

SaferWood’s Thermex-FR technology provides permanent fire-retardant protection and ignition resistance, while CUTEK Extreme’s deeply penetrating oil technology helps control moisture from within the wood, reducing cupping, warping, splitting, and checking. The result is a combination that allows partners to meet demanding performance requirements without compromising the natural beauty or long-term durability of wood. This approval provides OEMs, pre-treaters, architects, builders, and specifiers with a proven way to pair proven ignition-resistant wood technology with high-performance exterior wood protection. Together, SaferWood and CUTEK Extreme provide a complementary solution that supports the safe, sustainable, and long-lasting use of natural wood in residential and commercial construction.

“This is an exciting milestone for CUTEK and an important step forward for our OEM and pre-treatment
partners,” said Gerald Heatherington, president, CUTEK Wood Solutions. “The compatibility of CUTEK
Extreme with SaferWood’s Thermex-FR technology gives our partners greater confidence when specifying or supplying ignition-resistant wood products that also require long-term moisture protection and premium appearance. We are proud to work alongside a company whose commitment to innovation, quality, safety, sustainability, and customer service closely aligns with our own.”

“From the start, CUTEK Extreme was a promising product for its high performance and self-healing effect. And, as a company, CUTEK’s client-focused approach, technical expertise, and respect for natural wood align closely with our own,” said J. Travis Owens, chief business development officer at SaferWood. “We’re proud to have proven the collaboration between both our teams and our products. This marks an important step in expanding the finishing and appearance options of SaferWood, while maintaining our strict standards for quality, safety, and excellent service.” Mr. Owens added further.

SaferWood with Thermex-FR by Chemco, Inc. is a one-time, permanent fire-retardant pressure treatment that renders natural and thermally modified wood ignition-resistant. SaferWood is approved for exterior use in residential and commercial construction in WUI-designated areas and Fire Hazard Severity Zones, and it meets the requirements for fire-retardant-treated wood and ignition-resistant construction under applicable building codes.

For CUTEK® Wood Solutions, this approval strengthens its ability to support OEMs, pre-treaters, and specialty wood partners with a trusted penetrating oil system that enhances the service life, appearance, and performance of natural wood.
