Bundle Studio unveils innovative lounge chair with exposed glue lines in collaboration with Stora Enso

June 16, 2026

Copenhagen-based Bundle Studio has created a lounge chair that transforms an unconventional material characteristic into a distinctive design element.

Named Jacana, the chair was developed in collaboration with Stora Enso using NeoLigno®, a bio-based, formaldehyde-free binder made from lignin – one of the main natural components of wood. The project will be presented during 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen.

Known for its material-driven approach, Bundle Studio explores how emerging biomaterials can influence the objects they become part of. Rather than treating NeoLigno® as a direct substitute for conventional adhesives, founders Jón Hinrik and Kristine approached the material as a starting point for the design itself.

Unlike traditional transparent glues used in molded plywood, NeoLigno® has a dark brown colour. This characteristic defined the chair’s construction, veneer selection and detailing. Chamfered edges and open sides reveal the layered plywood structure, allowing the darker glue lines to remain visible rather than concealed.

“Instead of hiding the material, we wanted to celebrate it,” say the designers. “The exposed layers became part of the chair’s expression and a way of highlighting the craftsmanship behind molded plywood.”

Developed by Stora Enso, NeoLigno® was created as an alternative to conventional fossil-based and formaldehyde-containing binders used in wood products. Derived from lignin, one of wood’s natural building blocks, the binder introduces a renewable component into molded plywood construction.

Alongside the finished chair, Bundle Studio will present material studies, bent laminations and process samples produced throughout the development, offering visitors an insight into the experimentation behind the final piece.

Purpose and Value of Stora Enso

Stora Enso works with people and in communities all over the world through our operations, sales and supply chains. In each and every step they take, they consider their actions and impact on others.
Stora Enoso’s purpose “Do good for people and the planet. Replace non-renewable materials with renewable products” underpins their belief that everything that can be made with fossil-based materials today can be made from a tree tomorrow, and highlights Stora Enso’s opportunity to contribute to a greener economy.

Towards a sustainable future

Their purpose and values are underlined by their continuing commitment to promote a more sustainable future, one less dependent on fossil fuels and supporting a bioeconomy where the production and consumption of products are based on wood as a renewable resource. Wood fibre-based products store carbon and can also replace non-renewable materials such as plastic, glass, steel, concrete and fossil fuels. With global warming, growing populations, urbanisation, changing life styles and eco-awareness, trees can be a big part of the solution for customers and their consumers towards a sustainable bioeconomy.

For more than 750 years, Stora Enso has continuously adapted, reinvented and transformed alongside society’s changing needs. Today, they are leading the next phase of the materials transition. By combining renewable materials expertise, industrial scale, operational excellence and long-term customer partnerships, they create value for customers, shareholders and society.
