The Polish construction industry is characterised by intense development driven by EU funds and national projects, but it’s hindered by a lack of qualified specialists. Industry leaders are proactively developing local talent. Budimex SA, one of Poland’s largest construction and infrastructure groups, has made a concerted effort to address this skills deficit through deep engagement with regional educational institutions. On October 24, 2025, the company officially formalized its commitment in the Wałcz region by signing a tripartite agreement. This strategic partnership involves the District Center for Continuing and Vocational Education (PCKZiU) in Wałcz (colloquially known as “Budowlanka”) and the specialised Industry Skills Centre (BCU) focused on Construction Works.
This latest agreement marks a noteworthy milestone, bringing the total number of strategic school partnerships across Poland to 47. This extensive network underscores Budimex’s long-term commitment to human capital development, complementing its 27 active agreements with universities nationwide.
The choice of Wałcz as a key partner location is intrinsically linked to the scale of Budimex’s current and forthcoming regional infrastructure commitments. Specifically, the involvement is driven by the major construction phases of the S10 expressway, a strategic national investment designed to reshape regional connectivity.
The partnership with PCKZiU Wałcz, a leading vocational training centre, is vital. The school currently educates a cohort of construction technicians, providing a direct pipeline of future specialised workers. The existing program currently supports students across multiple grades: 22 students in the third year, 24 in the fourth year, and 12 in the fifth year, all poised to enter the professional market soon.
The inclusion of the Industry Skills Centre (BCU) further solidifies the academic and practical robustness of the agreement. The BCU is dedicated to advancing vocational skills in construction, ensuring that the partnership delivers training that is not only relevant but also aligned with the cutting-edge methodologies and technology used on large-scale projects.
The core of the tripartite agreement is the mutual exchange of knowledge, practical experience, and joint educational programming. For the students, the most valuable element is the provision of structured, high-quality apprenticeships.

Budimex commits to acting as the primary substantive partner, tailoring internship programs directly to the needs and demands of its active local investments. This means students won’t be confined to simulated environments; they will gain hands-on experience on real-world projects, learning complex construction processes, safety protocols, and project management firsthand.
Key benefits of the partnership include:
Maciej Kańkowski, Contract Director at Budimex SA, emphasized the dual benefits of the agreement: “The signing of the agreement in Wałcz is an important investment for us in the education of young people who can join our team in the future. Thanks to the cooperation with PCKZiU and BCU, students will gain invaluable practical experience on Budimex construction sites, and the most dedicated and talented among them will have a direct path to employment with our company.”
Budimex’s robust engagement in the Wałcz region is intimately tied to its role in the construction of the S10 expressway. This major strategic road project is set to become a critical east-west artery in Poland.
The S10, with a planned total length of approximately 410 kilometers, is designed to link the city of Szczecin in the northwest with the Warsaw agglomeration in the center-east. Running through key regional hubs including Piła, Bydgoszcz, and Toruń, the route will establish a direct, high-capacity connection between the regions of West Pomerania, northern Wielkopolska, Kujawsko-Pomorskie, and Mazovia.
The primary objective of the S10 is to provide a much-needed alternative transport route, alleviating pressure on the A2 motorway and significantly boosting economic connectivity and logistics efficiency across northern Poland.
Working on sections of this expressway offers students in Wałcz an unparalleled opportunity to contribute to a nationally significant project. They will be trained in areas critical to modern civil engineering, including earthworks, bridge construction, road pavement technology, and advanced safety standards.
Budimex’s collaboration with the Wałcz center exemplifies a wider, critical trend in the construction industry: the realization that the long-term success of large construction firms hinges on their ability to cultivate a steady supply of skilled, regionally-based talent.
These industry-school partnerships ensure that:
By actively investing in vocational education, Budimex is not just securing its own future workforce; it is contributing to the overall strength and long-term sustainability of the Polish construction industry, ensuring that major infrastructure projects, like the S10, can be completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest professional standards.
