Australian Panels once again relies of Siempelkamp’s competence to build one of the largest particleboard production lines in Australia.

Australian Panels (a Borg company) has opted for the competence of Siempelkamp, its partner in Germany, for what is the fifth time in total: The largest particleboard production line in Australia is being built at the Mount Gambier location, bringing together the Siempelkamp Group’s skill set.

Tried and tested partners for the new project, from left to right: Alex Röwe (Sales Manager Siempelkamp), Darren Johnson (Project Manager, Australian Panels) John Borg (Managing Director/Owner Australian Panels/Borg Group), Marc Mueller (Head of Sales, Siempelkamp)

Australian Panels is investing in the expansion of its operations in Mount Gambier, which is located in the southeast of the Australian state of South Australia, halfway between Melbourne and Adelaide. This is where the company will be expanding its particleboard production from 2025. With an annual capacity of more than 650,000 m3, the new particleboard production line made by Siempelkamp will become the largest of its kind in Australia.

Siempelkamp will be supplying its Australian partner with the forming and press line including the 8′ x 55.5m ContiRollÒ with NEO infeed. The scope of supply also includes the cooling and stacking line. Australian Panels, will further be drawing on the Siempelkamp Group’s bundled competence at its new location: Pallmann, a specialist in size-reduction technology, will be supplying new knife-ring flakers, double stream mills, and the established cleaning and grinding robots for knife rings. And Büttner, one of Siempelkamp’s subsidiaries, will also be contributing its expertise as it will be supplying a 6.5 x 32R sized drum dryer and flash-tube. The fact that a reliable and fast service is available in the country – with Siempelkamp Pty Ltd. under the management of Geoff Robson – also made it easier for the company to decide to go ahead with the new joint project.

Australian Panels is now realizing its fifth Siempelkamp press with this order. In 2016, the Australian company ordered a particleboard line with an almost identical scope for its site in New South Wales. At 8′ x 50.4m, this press is shorter than the one for the current project. Australian Panels most recent order was for an 8′ x 18.8m MDF line with ContiRollÒ for the production of thin boards, which was placed in 2019. Australian Panels runs its operations exclusively with Siempelkamp equipment. “We’re pleased to be working with our Australian customer to complete the “Big Five” of their plant portfolio. Being involved in a project of this scale is a great compliment for everyone in our group,” says Samiron Mondal, Managing Director Siempelkamp Group.
