Accoya establishes Public Information Kiosk

 Tuesday, December 29, 2015

Kiosk1 copyAccoya®, the world-leading modified wood manufactured by Accsys Technologies, has been used to create a public information kiosk as part of a fortress in the Dutch city of Bergen op Zoom.

RO&AD Architects, the team behind the award winning Moses Bridge in Halsteren and the floating bridge in Bergen op Zoom, designed the kiosk and specified Accoya cladding.  The architects had first-hand experience of Accoya’s reliable and durable qualities – even in direct contact with water and with constant exposure to variable weather fronts.
The Accoya-clad kiosk forms part of the wall of the fortress which holds back the surrounding Pielekenswater Lake. It houses a tourist information point, refreshment facilities and public toilets.

Ad Kil, of RO&AD Architects, said: “This kiosk is the latest in a collection of projects for which we have chosen Accoya as the primary construction material, relying on its aesthetic qualities and to remain durable in demanding settings. The wood’s superior performance coupled with its outstanding environmental credentials means that Accoya is a product that we will keep coming back to, time and time again.”

Laura Add, Head of Marketing for Accsys Technologies said, “Accoya has, to date, been used in a number of applications where it exposed to high moisture levels and even some where it comes into direct contact with water. Its ability to withstand the risks posed by exposure to water coupled with its outstanding aesthetic qualities and sustainability credentials make it the ideal material for innovative projects such as this in markets throughout the world.”

Kiosk2Manufactured using Accsys Technologies’ propriety acetylation technology, Accoya is one of the most superior wood products on the market today. It has class one durability, is guaranteed for 50 years above ground and 25 years in ground and has dimensional stability that sees swelling and shrinkage reduced by at least 75% compared to other wood products.

Exceeding the high-quality and aesthetic attributes of tropical hardwoods, Accoya also boasts excellent environmental credentials; it is sourced from FSC® certified forests and certified at Gold level by the Cradle-to-Cradle Products Innovation Institute.
