Wood Taiwan ends on High Note

The WOOD TAIWAN 2026 exhibition, organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and the Taiwan Woodworking Machinery Association, has wrapped up on a high note, marking a milestone in the woodworking machinery industry. Held from April 26, 2026, the event attracted 539 international buyers from 57 countries and regions. Among the top buyer countries were Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines, highlighting the show’s global appeal.

This year’s WOOD TAIWAN focused on the ongoing transformation of the woodworking machinery industry. With a spotlight on technological advancements, the exhibition aimed to promote higher-efficiency production through smart manufacturing. Visitors and exhibitors alike were particularly drawn to four key areas: high-efficiency CNC machining equipment, turnkey automation solutions, AI-based intelligent inspection and data integration, and multi-material processing applications. These areas reflect the industry’s broader move towards “intelligence, flexibility, and higher value-added production.”

Among the leading exhibitors was INNOVATER, which applied AI technology to veneer grading and quality inspection, significantly improving production efficiency while reducing material waste. Anderson Group demonstrated its cutting-edge automated storage systems, enabling single-operator automated production lines while supporting multi-material processing. LEADERMAC’s exhibit stood out by combining sensing technologies with robotic systems, allowing for fully automated production, from loading to stacking, while enhancing consistency through data feedback.

The event was also a prime opportunity for international networking, with trade delegations attending from Japan, Vietnam, and Malaysia, underscoring the significance of WOOD TAIWAN as a key international trade platform. The exhibition’s success extended beyond the show floor. According to TAITRA, several international buyers from emerging markets such as Africa and Central and Eastern Europe were impressed with Taiwan’s technological prowess. These buyers, who traditionally sourced woodworking machinery from Europe, were introduced to Taiwan’s advanced solutions, generating significant business interest. Several companies, including OAV, LEADERMAC, and Kuang Yung Machinery, reported successful outcomes, with OAV securing orders worth NT$10 million (approximately US$312,500).

The exhibition’s procurement meetings proved especially fruitful, with matchmaking sessions connecting supply and demand effectively. Internationally recognized companies, such as Akhurst Machinery, KLAUS Timber, and A. Tuval Agencies, participated in these meetings, resulting in business opportunities valued at NT$240 million (US$7.5 million). This further solidified Taiwan’s position as a global leader in the woodworking machinery sector.

A major highlight of the exhibition was the “Timber Structure Sustainability Forum,” which attracted experts from across the world. Speakers, including Tobias Smith, Managing Director of PTL Structural & Fire from New Zealand, and Professor Wan-Yu Liu from the Department of Forestry at National Chung Hsing University, offered valuable insights on timber construction safety and strategies for achieving net-zero emissions in the industry.

Adding a unique touch to the exhibition, the “Savor the Grain” event blended the aesthetic appeal of wood with artisan baking. This creative space allowed attendees to experience wood-inspired aromas while networking in a relaxed and creative atmosphere. The fusion of industry and lifestyle offered a new, engaging dimension to the exhibition, showcasing the versatility and appeal of woodworking beyond traditional industrial boundaries.

The next edition of WOOD TAIWAN is set to take place in 2029, continuing its mission of promoting innovation and leading trends in the woodworking machinery industry. As the global market evolves, the event is expected to remain a vital hub for connecting international buyers with Taiwan’s cutting-edge technological solutions.

This year’s WOOD TAIWAN not only underscored the importance of smart manufacturing in the woodworking sector but also highlighted Taiwan’s growing influence in global trade. The exhibition successfully bridged technology, business, and sustainability, leaving a lasting impact on all who attended.

As the industry moves forward, WOOD TAIWAN will undoubtedly remain a key player in shaping the future of woodworking technology, fostering international collaboration, and driving the evolution of the woodworking machinery industry.
