The Central European forestry sector marked an excellent advancement in support infrastructure with the grand opening of Wahlers Forsttechnik’s new, modern branch in the Temnitzpark industrial estate near Neuruppin, Germany, on October 3rd. This strategic investment in a rapidly developing logistics hub underscores the increasing sophistication and necessity of specialised maintenance for high-tech timber harvesting technology across the region.
The new facility, secured two years ago, spans a substantial 7,400 square meters and is purpose-built to meet the exacting service demands of modern forestry operations. It features dedicated, specialized workshops for handling large-scale forest machines (like harvesters and forwarders), a comprehensive spare parts warehouse designed for rapid deployment, a dedicated training area for technicians and operators, and modern office spaces.
From this geographically advantageous location, Wahlers Forsttechnik is perfectly positioned to deliver enhanced service and support to its vast customer base operating across the critical forestry regions of Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. These German states, known for their significant tracts of working forest—including large areas of Scots pine—represent a vital segment of the nation’s timber supply chain, making responsive equipment support essential.
The expansion into Temnitzpark represents not just a new build, but a strategic consolidation and continuation of existing service excellence. This new centre effectively integrates the business and personnel from Wahlers’ previous, long-standing service partner, Martin Soergel of Templin, a move finalised in 2023.
The seven employees from the former Templin team have transitioned to the new Wahlers banner, ensuring continuity of expertise and customer relationships. Martin Soergel himself takes on the crucial role of operations manager at the Temnitzpark branch, providing experienced leadership for the new facility. Furthermore, the company is actively expanding its technical capacity, with three new positions open for recruitment, specifically targeting skilled agricultural and construction machine technicians eager to specialise in the unique demands of forest machine service.
The success of modern forestry relies heavily on machine uptime. Given the remote and rugged nature of logging sites, the specialised workshop, robust spare parts inventory, and trained mobile service teams provided by centers like the one in Temnitzpark are indispensable. They minimise downtime for expensive, complex machinery, directly supporting the productivity and economic viability of logging contractors.

A 30-year of glorious partnership
The foundation of Wahlers Forsttechnik’s expansion is its enduring, three-decade partnership with the Finnish forestry machine giant, Ponsse. This cooperation, formalised in 1993 at the renowned Elmia Wood Exhibition, established Wahlers as the official importer and partner for Ponsse equipment across Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and parts of the Netherlands.
This long-term relationship is based on shared values and a deep commitment to the professional forester. Wahlers assumed total responsibility for sales, operator training, spare parts logistics, and—most importantly—specialised machine service, cementing its role as the vital link between Ponsse’s manufacturing and Central European customers.
Today, this partnership is a global success story. With the new Temnitz branch now operational, joining established centres in Uffenheim, Stemmen, and Ilmenau in Germany, as well as facilities in Austria, Wahlers Forsttechnik boasts a comprehensive network across Central Europe. The company currently employs more than 130 professionals and has earned the distinction of being recognised as Ponsse’s largest dealer worldwide, a testament to its operational scale and market penetration in a highly competitive region.
The joint investment in infrastructure, staff training, and inventory demonstrates a proactive approach to supporting the industry’s future. As German forestry adapts to climate change impacts and continues its commitment to sustainable harvesting practices, reliable, high-quality technical support for the complex machinery is non-negotiable. The Temnitzpark opening not only secures the operational backbone for the important East German timber regions but also reinforces the long-term strategic alliance between two global leaders in forestry technology and service.
