UPM agrees to put Renforsin Ranta business park for sale to Kansallisholding Oy.The Renforsin Ranta business park was set up by UPM on the site and premises of the shut down paper mill of Kajaani in 2009. This park was established as a means to take the edge off the consequences of the mill closure.

Redeve Oy, the parent company of Kansallisholding and specialising in the ownership and development of industrial real estate, shall now be in charge of operating the site. With the sale and purchase agreements already signed off, ownership and management of the business park will be consigned to Kansallisholding with immediate effect. The current companies on the same shall now simultaneously become tenants of Kansallisholding.

A good example of corporate responsibility

“Renforsin Ranta is a unique success story. Our aim was to create a business park that would employ at least as many people as the paper mill did when it was closed. UPM developed the site to suit new activity and achieved the employment target within a few years. Today, nearly 40 companies on the site employ around 700 people. The success has been widely recognised and the business park has been considered a good example of corporate responsibility in practice. Now the next phase of Renforsin Ranta begins, as it is transferred to a new, competent owner,” says Pirkko Harrela, Executive Vice President, Stakeholder Relations, UPM.

Redeve previously purchased various mill and commercial locations from UPM and manages business parks on these grounds. The site’s continuous development will be ensured by the transfer of Renforsin Ranta to the ownership of a specialised business park operator. The transaction amount for the Renforsin Ranta has been agreed on for a non-disclosure by both UPM and Kansallisholding.

Jari Lahtinen, Managing Director of Redeve Oy, highlighted that Renforsin Ranta is a distinctive addition to their portfolio of business parks and already has a sizable tenant base. The purchased area has a lot of potential for industrial and manufacturing companies in search of space and energy. The neighbourhood includes industrial-scale infrastructure with established rail links, and the stock of existing buildings offers a variety of space possibilities. He continued by saying that data centres, for example, can readily access electricity.
