UPM Timber wins prestigious TDUK Sustainability Award

UPM Timber has been honoured with Timber Development UK’s (TDUK) Sustainability Award, recognising its leadership in the drive towards net zero emissions. TDUK, the UK’s largest and most comprehensive timber supply chain organisation, is dedicated to uniting the industry from sawmill to specifier and supporting a sustainable, net zero future for timber.

Antti Koulumies, Vice President of UPM Timber, expressed pride in the achievement: “The UPM Timber team has worked systematically and determinedly towards sustainability. It’s truly great to receive this recognition from our customers and the industry organisation in the UK. Our efforts continue, and we want to challenge the entire wood products industry to reduce emissions from logistics in particular.”

The award highlights UPM Timber’s implementation of measurable sustainability improvements. The company actively collaborates with its customers to address sustainability challenges, fostering progress across the industry. UPM Timber’s production is powered entirely by renewable energy sources.

Key initiatives include the transport of sawn timber from Seikku sawmill to the port of Rauma using trucks powered by renewable diesel, adopting renewable diesel for all internal logistics at sawmills, and increasing the use of recycled plastic by up to 75% in three sawmills.

This recognition underscores UPM Timber’s commitment to reducing emissions and advancing sustainable practices within the timber industry.

UPM Timber produces redwood and whitewood sawn timber for the joinery, packaging, distribution, and construction industries. Our sawmills are powered entirely by renewable energy. We use certified Finnish raw material and the latest sawmilling techniques to produce high-quality sawn timber that fulfils our customers’ requirements. UPM Timber has four sawmills in Finland with a total annual capacity of 1.4 M cubic metres and its own sales network in Europe and Asia. UPM Timber employs around 410 people and has its headquarters in Tampere.
