UPM Plywood has finished altering the company structure, business operations, and worldwide functions in Finland, which were started in April and have already been completed. Enhancing operational efficiency and profitability has been the goal of the negotiations in order to protect UPM Plywood’s competitiveness in a difficult operating environment. Along with supporting organisational renewal, the goal is to create the UPM Plywood operating model and offer chances for skill development and employment rotation.
UPM Plywood assists those impacted by personnel reductions, and change security includes services and training aimed at re-employment. The negotiations included about 100 senior salaried and directors, and as a result, nine positions will be reduced. Additionally, the plan will result in changes to the organisation of work, job descriptions, and job locations within the UPM Plywood organisation.
Plywood and its types
Plywood is a multipurpose engineered wood product that is classified according to its composition, construction, and intended usage. Hardwood, softwood, marine, and ornamental plywood are common varieties; each has special qualities and is appropriate for a range of uses.
A summary of typical plywood types is shown below:
By Material & Construction:
Softwood: Softwoods such as pine, fir, or spruce are commonly used to make plywood. Because of its strength and affordability, it is frequently used in construction for roofing, subflooring, and sheathing.
Hardwood Plywood: Made from hardwoods such as maple, birch, and oak. It is renowned for its excellent surface, strength, and durability, which make it appropriate for interior paneling, furniture, and cabinetry.
Marine Plywood: Marine plywood is made for conditions with a lot of moisture and humidity. It is perfect for boat building and outdoor applications since it uses premium veneers and waterproof adhesives.
By applications:
Structural Plywood: Also referred to as sheathing plywood, this kind of plywood is employed to reinforce building frameworks and structures.
Ornamental plywood: Ornamental plywood improves the visual attractiveness of interior spaces by adding a veneer of hardwood or another ornamental wood species to the surface.
Flexible plywood: This kind is made to bend and curve for uses where curved or rounded surfaces are needed.
Fire-retardant plywood: Chemically treated to withstand fire, fire-retardant plywood improves safety in building and other uses.
Exterior Plywood: Made to withstand dampness, insects, and fungus growth, this type of plywood is chemically treated for outside use.
