Unilin makes the industry seamless with its innovative vinyl flooring

June 17, 2025

Unilin is pleased to present Floorward, an IVC collection that reinvents each layer, following three years of intense development. Vinyl could be the answer someone is looking for to smooth out vinyl flooring. IVC is introducing a high-end collection with Floorward, Unilin’s vinyl brand, that will revive vinyl flooring as a fashionable, eco-friendly, and inventive flooring option. “Floorward is an entirely new product. From its structure to its allure, everything has been reconsidered. Every single layer features an innovation”, comments a proud Product Manager, Ingrid Derveaux of Unilin. “Our focus was on quality, design, and sustainability”, continues Sustainability Engineer Sarah Van Damme.

Unending, smooth, and effortless

Floorward is made for a new generation of builders and remodelers who value easy installation and a sleek appearance. Three words that best describe the collection are effortless, smooth, and limitless. “Rolls measuring 4 metres wide and 30 metres long allow the creation of a seamless floor surface without joints. It not only looks sleek, it also makes installation quick and easy”, clarifies Ingrid. He further states, “And you save on costs, especially since Floorward can also be installed without glue.”

A fresh layer of ultra-matt lacquer

The designs seem luxurious due to the use of cutting-edge ink technologies and an ultra-matt lacquer layer. Additionally, the collection adds two additional wood and stone structures that give it a hyper-realistic appearance. “We want to reinvent the sheet vinyl experience. Floorward offers a stylish alternative to popular but extremely expensive types of flooring, such as cast floors and marble”, notes Ingrid.

Sustainability on all levels

In addition to improving the floor’s usability, the glue-free installation also adds to the system’s sustainability. Sustainability was the main focus of Floorward’s development, from material selection to production. “Every layer contributes to a more sustainable end product”, Sarah focuses. “We use PVC manufactured with green electricity, drastically reducing our CO₂ emissions. And instead of the traditional chalk filler, we’ve opted for a sustainable, recycled bio-filler: eggshell powder sourced from eggshells that would otherwise be discarded during industrial egg processing. Our supplier uses a patented mechanical process to turn it into a high-quality, recycled, and biobased alternative to primary calcium carbonate.” Furthermore, 90% of Floorward’s bottom layer is composed of recycled materials, with 10% (per the Mass Balance principle) being social plastic, which is derived from gathered ocean trash.

A second chance at life because of recovery

Beyond only production, Unilin aims to be more sustainable. Customers can return used flooring to Unilin through their Recover recycling program. In order to create a more circular future where waste is repurposed, these floors are subsequently turned into raw materials for new floors. Floorward makes circularity tangible and accessible. We’re taking responsibility for the entire lifecycle of the product”, affirms Sarah.
