Magnus Viklund has been appointed as the new head of the Forestry Department at the Swedish Forest Agency, bringing with him extensive leadership experience from various management roles within the agency, most recently serving as head of the policy unit.
Magnus Viklund comments on the appointment:
Magnus Viklund has worked at the Swedish Forest Agency since 2004, a total of 18 years as a manager. Previously, he has been head of the supervisory unit, district manager in Västerbotten and operations controller at the then Region Nord. As head of the policy unit, Magnus Viklund has also worked on issues at both European and international level.
With his years within the Swedish Forest Agency in many different roles, Magnus Viklund has broad and valuable experience from different parts of the organisation, says Director General Staffan Norin.
Important issues for the authority
Some of the strategic issues that Magnus Viklund wants to focus on are about the changes that the authority is in the midst of. The Forest Bill and its management is one such issue. Another important issue for the authority is the review of our supervisory work.
The major government assignment of intensified information and advisory work – the government gives the Swedish Forest Agency 40 million kronor per year for this – is another important issue that Magnus Viklund highlights.
“We also have the international work that the Swedish Forest Agency carries out and where we support the government. We need to both preserve and develop this work” – Magnus added further.
Magnus Viklund succeeds Staffan Norin, who started as new Director General on March 1. Viklund will take up the position as Head of Department on July 13.
The Finnish Forestry Agency has two departments with associated units. The Forestry Department includes seven units: the supervisory unit, the policy unit, the area protection and financial support unit, the advisory unit, the forestry unit, the geodata unit and the statistics unit.
The Swedish Forest Agency is an authority for matters relating to forests. Their task is to ensure that forests are managed so that the forest policy goals decided by the Riksdag can be achieved. Their vision is “Forests for the benefit of all”.
