Sveaskog sold the Mellanskog Forest Owners’ Association its whole 50% stake in Aktiebolaget Setra Group. After reviewing Mellanskog’s purchase of the shares, the Swedish Competition Authority decided in April 2025 to take no action over the concentration. The transfer occurred in April of 2025. In December 2024, Sveaskog declared that a letter of intent had been signed with Mellanskog on the agreement. “We are proud to have been a partner in Setra and now look forward to continued good cooperation as business partners in a competitive market,” exclaims Sveaskog’s CEO, Erik Brandsma.
The verdict is consistent with a 2009 legislative ruling and Sveaskog’s long-term plan to be an autonomous market participant with no personal stake in the forest sector and a responsible forest owner. Mellanskog becomes Setra Group‘s single principal owner as a result of the transaction. Erik Brandsma and Per Callenberg will step down from their positions on the Setra Group board in conjunction with Mellanskog’s appointment.
About Sveaskog
The Swedish government owns Sveaskog, the country’s largest forest. Through prudent, long-term management, they hope to add value to their forests and land while also helping Sweden meet its national environmental and climatic goals and the global objectives outlined in Agenda 2030. In order to maintain healthy woods for the future, their more than 800 staff strive every day to strike a balance between the ecological, economic, and social benefits of land and forests.
About Setra
Setra is one of the biggest wood industry firms in Sweden. The Group uses its facilities to refine forest raw materials into highly refined, climate-friendly goods, including glulam, planed wood, components, and cross-laminated timber (CLT) for a global market in housing and construction. Their wood comes from forests in some of the top softwood raw material locations in the world that are managed ethically. In order to produce electricity, they also sell bioproducts like bark, chips, and shavings to the pulp and paper industries.
The goal of Setra is to conduct business in a way that benefits customers, society, and the environment in addition to ourselves. This is referred to as “Grönsamhet.” Creating green value is what it all boils down to. Setra produces glulam, components, and CLT in eight production facilities spread across Sweden, as well as seven sawmills. Additionally, the company Setra Wood Products operates a planing mill in Great Britain.
