Stora Enso has concluded a contract with Business for Nature’s business statement urging governments to ‘Make it Mandatory’ for businesses and finance to evaluate and disclose their impacts and dependencies on nature as the UN Biodiversity Conference COP 15 draws near. In order to implement the Convention on Biological Diversity’s post-2020 framework plan, the UN Biodiversity Conference will bring together governments from all around the world.

Not just minimising harm, but actively contributing to improve ecosystems
Along with the other signatories, Stora Enso has evaluated the gravity of requiring businesses to disclose their environmental performance consistently is crucial to taking meaningful action. Businesses have a part to play in reversing natural loss, safeguarding biodiversity, and saving species in addition to making net-zero commitments. To manage them, businesses need to be aware of their effects and dependencies. Furthermore, progress can be monitored by disclosing.

With the voluntary disclosure of a number of metrics on the company’s performance in terms of biodiversity, Stora Enso is already acting upon the initiative. The brand in fact deems this as one of their foundations, working to continuously develop and enhance both their performance and transparency with regard to biodiversity. Years of experience dealing with active biodiversity initiatives complement their company profile. In addition to minimising harm, continuous efforts to improve ecosystems is their motto. As a part of Stora Enso’s sustainability ambitions, the brand is determined on achieving a net positive impact on biodiversity in the surrounding forests and plantations within the year 2050.

In order to achieve this net-positive objective, Stora Enso has :

Created and started a series of initiatives aimed at 2030 to increase species, habitat, and landscape biodiversity in our own forests and in collaboration with private forest owners.
Started collaborating with organisations outside of the forest sector to increase biodiversity through knowledge-sharing and active involvement in developing new standards and policies.

Sustainable forest management safeguards forest health, and protects biodiversity while providing customers with renewable resources that can substitute fossil-based materials and help mitigate climate change. Read more news on Stora Enso
