Stora Enso has announced Bergslagets Skogar as the new name for its Swedish forest asset company. The move marks another important milestone in the company’s preparation to separate its Swedish forest holdings into an independent publicly listed business.
The planned separation is expected to be completed during the first half of 2027, subject to the required approvals. Once established as a standalone entity, Bergslagets Skogar is expected to become Europe’s largest listed pure-play forest company.
The new company will manage more than 1.2 million hectares of forest land located in Sweden. These forest assets have been managed over generations and represent a significant long-term investment within the forestry sector.
The name Bergslagets Skogar has strong historical connections to Sweden’s forestry and mining heritage. It reflects the company’s links to the old copper mining region in Falun and its long-standing tradition of active forest ownership dating back to 1288.
According to the company, the new identity also highlights a long-term approach to sustainable forest management and value creation. Forest assets are typically managed over decades. Strategic planning often extends across generations.
Tuomas Hallenberg, Chief Executive Officer of Bergslagets Skogar, stated that the company’s objective is to create long-term value through sustainable forestry practices and operational efficiency.
He explained that biological growth and responsible forest management remain central to the business model. Strong focus will also be placed on operational excellence.
The proposed separation is intended to create clearer strategic direction for both businesses. Stora Enso believes the move will allow its forest assets and renewable packaging operations to develop independently with dedicated capital allocation strategies.
Under the planned structure, Bergslagets Skogar will focus on sustainable forest management, biological asset growth and land-use opportunities. Revenue is expected to be generated through timber production and other sustainable land-related activities.
Long-term wood supply agreements are also planned between the new forest company and Stora Enso. Stable demand for timber resources is expected to be maintained through these agreements while operational flexibility is retained for both organisations.
The separation process is currently being prepared. Regulatory and shareholder approvals will still be required before completion.
Additional information regarding Bergslagets Skogar’s future strategy will be shared during a Capital Markets Day scheduled for 3 November 2026 in Stockholm.
The event will provide investors with details regarding the company’s financial profile, value creation plans, capital allocation framework and long-term business strategy.
A forest field trip in Falun will follow the investor event. Participants are expected to gain direct insight into the company’s forestry operations and land management practices.
Formal invitations and registration details are expected to be issued closer to the event date.
The newly introduced logo for Bergslagets Skogar has also been inspired by the company’s historical roots. In earlier centuries, timber transported from forests was marked to identify ownership and origin.
For Bergslaget, historically known as Stora Kopparbergs Bergslags AB, the identifying mark was the letter “B”. This symbol has now been incorporated into the new corporate identity.
The logo design also references wooden support structures once used in the Falun Mine. Timber played an essential role in maintaining safety and structural stability within the mining operations.
These historical values of continuity, strength and sustainability are intended to remain central to the company’s forestry management philosophy.
Stora Enso continues to position itself as a global supplier of renewable materials and sustainable packaging solutions. The company focuses heavily on replacing non-renewable materials with renewable alternatives.
Its operations include the development of packaging materials and solutions made from both fresh and recycled fibres. The company works closely with customers to support the transition towards a circular bioeconomy.
Stora Enso currently employs approximately 19,000 people worldwide. In 2025, the company reported sales of EUR 9.3 billion.
The creation of Bergslagets Skogar represents a major strategic development for the European forestry sector. The planned listing is expected to attract investor attention towards forest assets as a distinct long-term asset class.
