Stora Enso and Matrix Pack have signed a strategic collaboration agreement with the shared goal of advancing the development of sustainable formed fiber packaging. This next stage builds on an already successful partnership by combining Matrix Pack’s industrial expertise and global market reach with Stora Enso’s innovative leadership in renewable materials to develop the next generation of sustainable packaging. With its established track record and large market reach, Matrix Pack, a market leader providing fiber-based goods to international brands, fortifies the collaboration.
Scaling fibre technologies and solutions that replace less environmentally friendly packaging materials, such as plastics, is the primary goal of the partnership. The collaboration will also open up potential for fibre sourcing and supply chain integration, utilising both businesses’ competencies throughout the value chain. “This partnership is a natural step forward in our Formed Fiber journey,” comments Juuso Konttinen, SVP & Head of Biomaterials Growth at Stora Enso. He continued, “We see formed fibre as a high-potential packaging segment, and partnering with Matrix Pack gives us the best opportunity to join the growth path.”
Following the agreement, Stora Enso has acquired a minority interest in Matrix Pack and will join the company’s board, underscoring its shared commitment to accelerate the global transition to bio-based, circular packaging. “We are proud to welcome Stora Enso as a strategic partner and shareholder,” shares Lyberis Polychronopoulos, President of the BoD at Matrix Pack. “Their leadership in sustainable materials aligns perfectly with our mission. Starting today, we are significantly expanding the existing capacity, which enables us to deliver the next generation fibre-based packaging to customers worldwide.”
