Södra Cell is increasing production capacity for its innovative FiberSafe® fibre baling solution following strong customer demand for the wire-free pulp packaging system.

As part of a scheduled maintenance stop this month, new equipment is being installed at Södra Cell Mörrum to optimise and expand the production of FiberSafe® baled pulp. The upgrade is designed to support growing market interest while improving operational efficiency and product consistency.

FiberSafe® replaces traditional metal wire baling with fibre-based straps, enabling customers to pulp the entire bale without the need for conventional dewiring stations. The solution helps improve workplace safety while streamlining the pulping process.

“FiberSafe® has proven very popular with customers. It allows the entire bale to be pulped, removing the need for potentially hazardous dewiring stations,” said Stewen Nilsson.

The fibre-based straps also support customers with high cleanliness standards, particularly in paper production processes where even microscopic metal residues can impact quality. By eliminating metal wire, FiberSafe® helps reduce contamination risks and supports cleaner papermaking operations.

The FiberSafe® investment forms part of a broader development programme at the Mörrum mill. Additional upgrades include initiatives focused on improving energy efficiency and implementing enhanced digital tools aimed at strengthening production quality, consistency, and long-term operational performance.

With the expanded capacity, Södra Cell aims to meet increasing customer demand while continuing to advance sustainable and innovative pulp production solutions.

Family forest owners don’t just grow trees. They nurture relationships, breed a sense of responsibility and grow hope for the future. Forestry is key to a sustainable society, and they have a significant responsibility to harness the thousands of opportunities the forest offers. They work diligently to find new solutions to reduce our climate impact and use our resources sustainably. Södra takes care of the forest so that it can take care of us, now and in the future.

Climate change and biodiversity loss are two of the major environmental challenges of their time. At Södra, they take them seriously and want to be part of the solution. With ambitious targets set for 2030, we focus on climate-adapted forests, climate neutrality and sustainable use of resources. Above all, they put people at the centre. Together, we can make a difference.

Sustainability is a natural part of their daily life, but what it means changes over time. That’s why they’re constantly looking for future-proof solutions which create the greatest possible value from the forest. For the family forest owners, society at large and for every one of them. With knowledge, research and a responsive dialogue, we are building sustainable forestry for the future.
