In January 2025, the Siempelkamp Group became the first company to join the Maschinenraum ecosystem. As a leading technology provider in mechanical and plant engineering, Siempelkamp aims to leverage this family business network to navigate key transformation challenges and drive innovation. The company is currently strategically driving megatrends such as sustainability, change management and digitalisation. The focus is also on establishing new technologies and countering the effects of the shortage of skilled workers as an attractive employer.

“The Siempelkamp Group is currently designing its transformation, which extends to many areas of the group. In order to meet our high standards, we want to think outside the box and learn from best practice examples,” says Martin Scherrer, CEO of the Siempelkamp Group. “We also want to contribute our experiences and learnings. The machine room offers ideal conditions for this exchange.” Martin added further.

The diversity of business areas and increasing regulatory requirements make sustainability strategies particularly complex; at the same time, the company sees this as an opportunity to set new standards. Dealing with high energy costs in casting technology and the increased use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence are also among the key challenges that Siempelkamp is tackling, for example through research and innovation.

Tobias Rappers, Managing Director of Maschinenraum, sees Siempelkamp’s membership as a valuable asset: “With Siempelkamp, we are gaining a company that, thanks to its broad industry expertise and decades of experience, represents a great asset to our network. Siempelkamp is an example of the challenges that many medium-sized companies face today: the balancing act between the further development of proven business areas and the design of future-oriented, sustainable solutions. I am convinced that the exchange in Maschinenraum will provide new impetus – not only for Siempelkamp, but for all members of our network.”

The Maschinenraum, an alliance of almost 80 family businesses as well as university partners and other innovators, is working together on the transformation of German medium-sized businesses. By joining, Siempelkamp wants to learn from the experiences of other family businesses and contribute its own insights. The exchange on topics such as sustainable business models and transformation is seen as an important basis for future developments.
