SCM’S Smart&Human Factory at LIGNA.IN

 Thursday, September 30, 2021

At LIGNA.Innovation Network, SCM put the spotlight on the Smart&Human Factory, the digital and user-friendly factory, continuously evolving to meet the needs of a flexible and “batch 1” production.

SCM’s Smart&Human Factory is a state-of-the-art production model for the furniture industry that goes beyond traditional automation systems. All this thanks to automated flexible, modular and easily reconfigurable cells, integrated with software and digital services, industrial articulated and cooperative robots and intelligent unmanned shuttles, programmable according to the production unit layout and capable of moving and working alongside the operator in total safety. These cells can be put together to suit every customer’s needs and satisfy the most varied machining and spatial demands. It is the ideal solution to achieving the dream of a single factory, a single storage warehouse, and a single assembly, packing and shipping area by simplifying production and logistics needs as much as possible.

Already presented at Ligna 2019, after many implementations on cutting-edge markets in Europe, the United States and China, SCM’s Smart&Human Factory has been enhanced with new additions to further increase productivity and flexibility, reduce waste and optimise the quality of the end product even on more sensitive materials.

SCM’s Software and Digital Services ecosystem

SCM’s “Digital Integrated Woodworking Process” is a collection of digital and integrated technologies – i.e. Software and Digital Services – that interact to define what products are to be manufactured, as well as how and when they are to be manufactured.

Within this framework, digitalization can support the client at every stage of his process in creating furniture.

PREPARATION. First thing is preparing the information, data and programs for the production. Design, CAD-CAM software and simulators can dramatically shorten time and reduce errors from the office to the machines. SCM provides specific software to support customers in the design, optimization and data generation for the machines in the shopfloor. Among these software SCM presents:

PLANNING and OPTIMIZATION. Once all production data have been defined, it’s time to optimize, schedule and plan the jobs and the production. Production scheduling and planning can be handled with dedicated software, the so-called MES (Manufacturing Execution System). On the other hand, optimization has to do with optimizing processes such as cutting, or drilling.

PRODUCTION. Smart manufacturing employs different technologies to make machines more and more intelligent, smart and interactive. In this concept, a smart factory has machines provided with HMI software facilitating the user experience and interaction with the machine.

MONITORING and SERVICING. Once the production has been started and for the whole life cycle of the machine, Maestro connect Digital Service platform ensures machine status monitoring, maintenance optimization, issue management, spare parts suggestions, smart learning as well as augmented reality service support with Smartech.
