SCM-1

SCM recently participated at the International Mass Timber Conference and introduced visitors on the future of green buildings and latest cutting edge OIKOS XL and AREA XL CNC machining centres, developed to meet the needs of a very growing sector.

Another important event dedicated to the timber construction industry successfully concluded. The Mass Timber Conference which took place in Portland, Oregon, from April 12 to 14, saw once again SCM’s attendance together with the other main representatives of the sector.

For years the North American market has experienced an increase in the number of multi-storey buildings in wood, both for private and public buildings and the SCM latest “XL” solutions have been designed and manufactured for these specific requirements.

The International Mass Timber Conference also marked the debut of SCM’s new commercial partnership with Randek, the Swedish company known throughout the world for its high-performance innovative technologies for prefabricated houses. People attending the event showed a great interest in this global collaboration which offers the market the widest range of solutions for structural beams, X-lam/CLT and prefabricated building elements.

Deep-rooted SCM technologies look to the future, in line with the demands of an ever-expanding off-site market.

The latest “XL” machines by SCM and Randek for multi-storey buildings was presented at the International Mass Timber Conference.

SCM, one of the global leaders in technologies for wood machining, presented its vision for the future of green buildings at the International Mass Timber Conference.
The edition, heavily focused on environmental sustainability and zero-impact construction, which are increasingly driving the growth in the timber construction market in North America and Europe.

In the United States and Canada in particular, there has been an increase in the number of multistorey buildings in wood, both for private and public buildings. This has also been due to the
implementation by many states of the new International Building Code (IBC2021), that allows to realize wood buildings up to 18 storeys high.

The trend of the sector is very positive, both for the use of mass timber, where it is expected on average a doubling of the number of projects every two years, as well as of other materials such as large format CLT (cross-laminated timber), GLT (glue laminated timber) for large beams and columns, and DLT (dowelled laminated timer) or NLT
(nailed laminated timber), in particular for flooring.
