To connect scientific research and business, the 26th edition of the International Wood Machining Seminar (IWMS), a biennial event that has served as a benchmark in the woodworking industry for more than 50 years, was held on April 14 and 15 at the University of Florence’s Aula Magna.
In addition to the 47 scientific contributions on the program, Marco Venturini, SCM‘s Sanding and Pressing Technical Manager, delivered a speech about the opportunities associated with laser processing, an application area in which SCM has made significant investments in R&D since introducing a new DMC system, a wide belt sander.
Key insights on the major market shifts were also discussed, including Alessandra Benedetti’s address, “Driving Digital Servitization Forward,” which was delivered by SCM Group’s Director of Digital Transformation & Business Remodeling.
Following the session, attendees had the chance to explore the SCM Headquarters through an engaging technical tour.

More about sanding
Combining quality, productivity, and adaptability, SCM systems with wide belts provide the best possible surface calibration, sanding, and customising while producing eye-catching finishing effects. SCM provides a variety of solutions that provide long-lasting performance and dependability to satisfy the demands of both artisans and large corporations.
SCM is a pioneer in the design and manufacture of both manual and automated machinery, woodworking and industrial services, and specially created production labs that produce veneered panels, solid wood, and plastic ingredients. SCM’s machinery is all set up to provide the highest performance levels, technological advancements, and dependability. It is available everywhere and is simple to install and use.
X-lam and CLT wall machining is the specialty of the automatic broad belt sander DMC System XL.
This fully modular equipment can process walls up to 3700 mm wide and 500 mm thick, depending on the needs of the customer.
The DMC System XL’s strong steel structure allows for great production capacities, and its automatic feed speed adjustment makes it stand out for its exceptionally low usage.

More about the pressing lines
From conventional setups to fully automated and integrated facilities without line operators, SCM high-productivity pressing lines are made for panel composition with a variety of automation options. SCM software is used to program, manage, and control the in-line machines so that production and batch programs can be scheduled, for example, according to the final client order. The potential application of barcodes.
The unique automatic continuous cycle press (patented) is used to produce pre-finished parquet (2–3) and hollow core and coated (veneer, HPL, and CPL) doors. One door at a time is systematically loaded by the press, which keeps the pressure on doors within other compartments constant. Over 1200 doors are pressed up each shift due to high productivity.
