SCA has strengthened its position as a global leader in sustainable forestry after being awarded a Gold Medal in EcoVadis’ 2025 sustainability assessment. The company also improved its overall score from 78 to 79, placing it among the top five percent of all companies evaluated worldwide and underscoring its long-term commitment to responsible forest management, climate action, and ethical business practices.
EcoVadis is one of the world’s most respected providers of independent corporate sustainability ratings, assessing tens of thousands of companies across global supply chains. Its methodology evaluates performance in four core areas: Environment, Labor and Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement. Each category includes detailed criteria covering policies, certifications, operational processes, and transparency through reporting. Scores are combined into an overall rating on a scale from 0 to 100, with medals awarded based on relative global performance.
With a 2025 score of 79, SCA ranks higher than more than 95 percent of all companies included in the EcoVadis benchmark. This achievement reflects continuous improvement across sustainability metrics, particularly in environmental stewardship and responsible sourcing—key pillars of the forestry sector’s transition toward low-carbon and nature-positive operations.
SCA’s Head of Sustainability, Per Funkquist, described the recognition as confirmation that the company’s strategy is delivering measurable results. He noted that SCA’s ambition is to lead the way in combining profitable and efficient forestry with responsibility, long-term care for ecosystems, and tangible climate benefits. Improving an already strong EcoVadis score, he said, demonstrates the effectiveness of systematic sustainability efforts embedded throughout the organisation.
The EcoVadis Gold Medal adds to a growing list of international recognitions for SCA. Most notably, the company was recently included on the Carbon Disclosure Project’s (CDP) prestigious A List for 2025—the highest possible rating—in both the Climate Change and Forests categories. CDP assessments are widely regarded as a global benchmark for corporate transparency and environmental leadership.
According to Funkquist, receiving top-tier ratings from two independent and globally recognised assessors highlights the strength of SCA’s approach in an international context. He emphasised that the results validate not only the company’s operational practices but also the broader Swedish forestry model, which focuses on sustainable harvesting, biodiversity protection, and long-term forest growth.
For the forestry industry, SCA’s performance demonstrates how active, science-based forest management can support climate mitigation while maintaining economic competitiveness. As regulatory and market expectations around ESG performance continue to rise, SCA’s EcoVadis Gold Medal and CDP A List status position the company as a benchmark for sustainable forestry at a global level.
