SCA took a major step in enhancing its position as a leading pulp producer with the launch and expansion of the new Östrand pulp mill in 2018. This state-of-the-art facility was established with the primary goal of significantly improving the Group’s pulp quality and production capacity.

With the commissioning of Östrand, SCA reaffirmed its commitment to innovation and long-term development. The mill has not only raised production standards but has also laid a solid foundation for continuous improvement in the strength properties of its pulp products. “SCA is proud of the progress achieved since Östrand began operations,” notes a company spokesperson. The person further remarks, “The mill represents a key milestone in our strategy, and we are actively exploring its full potential to strengthen our pulp offerings even further.”

“Since we started up our new mill, Östrand pulp mill, in 2018, we’ve been continuously working to improve strength properties. Now we’re seeing the results. In 2024, tensile strength reached 95 kNm/kg (at 25◦SR). Naturally, we’re pleased with this development, but we’re always striving to further improve our pulp quality,” states Jessica Sjöberg, Product Manager for SCA Pure (NBSK).

“In our northern forests, located in the colder parts of Scandinavia, the trees grow slowly – a natural process that produces the exceptionally strong Nordic fibres we rely on. These fibres are then treated gently and with care throughout the entire production chain, which is key to delivering a strong, consistent, high-quality pulp of world-class standard. Moreover, our premium pulp is available to all, with both ECF and TCF options offered across our entire production,” Jessica goes on.

“But premium pulp alone isn’t enough – it’s the people behind it that make the real difference. Stability and trust are what we’re built on, and it’s something we genuinely want to share with our customers. We’re a small, committed team that takes pride in being reliable, easy to work with, and always there when you need us. No matter where you are in the world, we’re here to offer great service and the flexibility to meet your needs”.

As a result of this strategic investment, the Group continues to work relentlessly on enhancing the performance and strength characteristics of its pulp, aiming to deliver even greater value to customers worldwide. The ongoing development underscores SCA’s vision to remain at the forefront of sustainable and high-performance pulp production. “With SCA Pulp, you’re not just getting premium pulp – you’re gaining a partner you can rely on, not only today, but for the long haul, Jessica concludes.
