With the completion of 20 more council homes at Langside Crescent in Kennoway, Fife Council has bolstered its supply of affordable housing. This is the last stage of an essential residential development carried out in collaboration with Robertson Construction Eastern on behalf of Robertson Partnership Homes. With this milestone, the site now has 63 new dwellings, which significantly contributes to the region’s housing needs.

The development is located on the former Kennoway Primary School site and has been delivered in two phases. The first phase, completed in 2025, saw the handover of 43 homes, while the second phase adds a further 20 properties to Fife Council’s housing portfolio. Together, the homes form part of the council’s wider strategy to address the ongoing housing emergency and expand access to high-quality, affordable accommodation.

The project has received £5.255 million in grant funding from the Scottish Government through its Affordable Housing Supply Programme. This investment has supported the delivery of modern, energy-efficient homes designed to meet a range of household needs. The completed development includes a mix of detached and semi-detached houses, as well as amenity bungalows and wheelchair-accessible properties, ensuring inclusivity and long-term adaptability for residents.

All homes have been built to high energy-efficiency standards, reflecting growing expectations across the Scottish construction sector for sustainable and low-carbon housing. Features include high-performance insulation, modern windows, and efficient heating systems, alongside photovoltaic (PV) panels to support renewable energy generation. Sprinkler systems have also been installed throughout the development, enhancing safety and compliance with current building standards.

Langside Crescent is the second of seven housing projects that Robertson has been commissioned to deliver for Fife Council across the region. Beyond increasing housing supply, the project has generated lasting social and economic benefits for the local community. During construction, an estimated 272 full-time equivalent local jobs were supported, while more than £10 million was spent with local micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). Additional community benefits included donations and support for local schools and charities.

Gordon Milne, Regional Managing Director at Robertson Construction Eastern, highlighted the importance of long-term collaboration in delivering housing at scale. He noted that the Kennoway project demonstrates how partnership working can help local authorities respond to housing pressures while also stimulating local economic activity and employment across the construction supply chain.

Councillor Judy Hamilton, Fife Council’s Housing Spokesperson, described the handover as a further step forward in tackling the area’s housing challenges. She emphasised that the new homes will provide safe, warm, and energy-efficient living environments, helping to improve health, wellbeing, and community resilience. Each new council home, she added, plays a vital role in supporting individuals and families while strengthening local neighbourhoods.

The development also reflects the wider impact of Fife Council’s Affordable Housing Programme, which combines the delivery of new homes with investment in skills, apprenticeships, and regional economic growth. As further projects progress across Fife, partnerships between councils and construction specialists such as Robertson are expected to remain central to addressing Scotland’s long-term housing needs.
