Together with Wesbeam, Raute is unlocking new levels of productivity. As Australia’s only laminated veneer lumber (LVL) manufacturer, Wesbeam wanted to improve veneer recovery, grading accuracy, and consistency. Wesbeam partnered with Raute to implement two key technology modernisations: the Veneer Visual Analyser R7 – Composing and the Veneer Visual, Moisture and Strength Analyser R7 – Drying modernisations.

In July 2024, Wesbeam undertook a major camera system modernisation on its veneer composing line, replacing its legacy grayscale VCA system with Raute’s cutting-edge Veneer Visual Analyzer R7 – Composing technology. This intelligent automation improved defect detection, precision clipping, and automated grading, reducing waste and maximising material usage.
Building on this success, in January 2025 Wesbeam implemented Raute’s R7 technology for dry-veneer visual, moisture, and strength grading, uniting these capabilities into a single platform. The result is market-leading accuracy across all wood species, highly reliable production-integrated strength grading, and deeper, real-time insights into veneer integrity, further elevating operational efficiency and quality.
Raute creates machines to transform wood into modern engineered wood products that people have come to rely on. Engineered wood products are manufactured by bonding together veneer, lumber, chips, or strands with adhesives to create composite wood products. Engineered wood products can be further categorized into two: mass timber products and wood-based panels.
Mass timber products refer to panels, beams, or columns designed to be used in large-scale construction, providing structural strength and versatility comparable to steel and concrete. Mass timber products include Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT), Dowel-Laminated Timber (DLT), Glue-Laminated Timber (GLT, glulam), Nail-Laminated Timber (NLT), Laminated Stand Lumber (LSL), Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL), Parallel Strand Lumber (PSL), I-joists, Oriented Strand Lumber (OSL), Mass Plywood Panel (MPP) or Veneer-Laminated Lumber VLT, and Massive OSB (MOSB).
Wood-based panels are designed for a wide range of applications in construction, furniture making, and interior design. Wood-based panels include plywood, particle board, solid wood panels, OSB, MDF, and wood fiber panels.
