Inclined band saw

At LIGNA 2025, Primultini from Marano Vicentino in northern Italy showcased a comprehensive cutting system that includes an 18-degree inclined band saw at its core. This system is based on the company’s many years of experience in primary wood processing. Especially when dealing with dry or hard logs, the technique was designed to make handling sawn timber easier. The method, according to the Italians, features inclined cantilevers for total alignment from beginning to end and variable-axis log carriages for a smooth and controlled cutting flow.

Avoid unanticipated falls or impacts

For sawmills that wish to blend care and precision, Primulitini says the way the wood passes through the machine is essential. The purpose of the 18-degree tilt is to gently guide each board along the cutting arc, preventing abrupt drops or collisions that could harm the material, particularly on sensitive areas, rather than to lessen wear on the saw blades.

The double frame structure guarantees quick and accurate log alignment

The integration of the CRL-I log carriage with the SHG/SIH/SLH series bandsaws reflects this fundamental idea. The CRL-I was created in partnership with Bongioanni and features a twin-frame design. The wheel system rotates the upper frame, which contains the clamps. Because the trunk stays stationary on the upper frame, which rotates via a variable axle system, this enables quick and accurate alignment to the trunk’s natural taper. This speeds up positioning, preserves mechanical stability, and lessens internal tension on the log.

Furthermore, the angled configuration makes it possible for the wood to rest directly on the carriage without needing to be moved or flipped over, which makes loading operations easy to use. The moderate flow concept is carried over into the slanted WSF-I gallop. It guarantees clean edges, processes the log’s side surfaces parallel to the cutting direction, and helps create a cutting line that is perfectly synced.

Advanced 3D Scanner Technology Facilitates Log Analysis

Using 3D scanning technology, the entire system is completely compatible with automatic log optimisation to satisfy contemporary production standards. Each log’s interior features and shape are analysed by the scanners, which then instantly produce cutting instructions that are optimised. At the sawmill level, this leads to improved material yield, reduced waste, and optimised decision-making.

Knowing where to start cutting

A portion of the arrangement has been delivered to LIGNA 2025 by Primultini, allowing guests from all around the world to observe firsthand how a complex angle can improve production flow. Because efficiency in sawmills nowadays involves more than just speed, it also involves accuracy, consistency, and understanding when to begin cutting.
