Founded in 1993 in Taizhou, China, Wuxi Rayard Wood Industry has become a leader in producing high-quality doors, drawer sides, and decorative raised panels. With a sprawling factory covering nearly 200,000 square meters and a team of over 1,200 dedicated employees, the company has positioned itself as one of Ikea’s key partners, with annual sales approaching $170 million. Wuxi Rayard is committed to producing innovative and sustainable furniture solutions, responding to the growing demand for eco-friendly products in the global marketplace.
The challenge: Sustainability as a growth opportunity
Wuxi Rayard recognised sustainability as not only a responsibility but also a significant growth opportunity. As environmental awareness continues to shape consumer preferences, particularly among those purchasing furniture, the demand for sustainable products has surged. Wuxi Rayard understood that to remain competitive, it needed to align with this demand by making its manufacturing processes more sustainable, particularly in the finishing lines, which are vital to production.
The company faced challenges in reducing the consumption of coatings, solvents, and other materials traditionally used in the finishing process. To meet these sustainability goals, Wuxi Rayard sought a technological partner to help modernise its machinery, reduce consumption, and boost environmental performance.
The Cefla Finishing Solution
To address these challenges, Wuxi Rayard turned to Cefla Finishing, a trusted partner known for its innovative automation and finishing solutions. Cefla’s expertise was pivotal in transforming the plant’s operations. The Wuxi Rayard facility is divided into specialised areas for material preparation, woodworking, finishing, and packaging, each playing a crucial role in the production process.
Cefla Finishing’s solution involved the installation of two fully integrated finishing lines, which combined sanding, coating, drying, and wrapping processes. This integrated approach streamlined the production line, enabling higher efficiency, reduced waste, and minimized environmental impact.
Results: Streamlined operations and environmental impact
Thanks to the lines developed by Cefla Finishing, even the delicate finishing stage has been fully automated, making it more efficient and reducing overall consumption. The integration of automation in the finishing process has significantly minimized the use of lacquers and solvents, addressing the core sustainability issue while optimizing the entire value chain.
This improvement in production performance allows Wuxi Rayard to position itself as a company that prioritizes environmental responsibility. The ability to meet sustainability goals while maintaining high product quality positions the company as a forward-thinking and eco-conscious provider in the competitive market.
Achieving the Right Balance of Quality, Efficiency, and Sustainability
As a key supplier to Ikea, Wuxi Rayard has always been committed to maintaining a perfect balance between quality, cost control, and manufacturing efficiency. From the outset, the company’s production systems have been fully automated, leading to various benefits over the years, such as:
The company now leverages Cefla Finishing’s expertise to achieve excellent sustainability-related key performance indicators (KPIs) during the crucial finishing stage of production, which has a significant environmental impact.
The integrated lines implemented by Cefla
Cefla worked closely with Wuxi Rayard’s team to set up two tailored, ultra-high-efficiency finishing lines that seamlessly integrated with existing systems. These lines included several key components:
Spray Coating System: Furniture is coated using an advanced spray system controlled by the high-speed Roctre machine. This ensures an even, high-quality finish with minimal waste of materials.
Omnidry Vertical Oven: The furniture pieces are then placed inside Omnidry, a vertical oven capable of managing variously sized pieces. This system self-adjusts automatically, eliminating the need for worker intervention and improving operational efficiency.
UV-R Polymerization Drying: After coating, the products undergo a final polymerization-type drying process through Cefla’s plug-and-play UV-R solution, ensuring rapid curing while reducing energy consumption.
In addition to the coating and drying lines, Cefla also implemented an automated wrapping line using systems from Düspohl, a Cefla brand specialising in wrapping technology.
A long-standing, innovation-driven partnership
The collaboration between Wuxi Rayard and Cefla Finishing has blossomed into a strategic partnership fueled by shared values of innovation and sustainability. This partnership goes beyond a traditional customer-supplier relationship. Wuxi Rayard actively engages with Cefla at exhibitions and Open House events, allowing the company to experiment with the latest technologies and ensure that the solutions meet the evolving demands of the industry.
Cefla Finishing: A trusted partner for Wuxi Rayard
Wuxi Rayard deeply values Cefla Finishing’s expertise, cutting-edge products, and comprehensive technical support. As a result of the partnership, the company has experienced outstanding stability, improved margins, and consistently high-quality production.
