Plantag Coatings GmbH, a leading lacquer manufacturer based in Detmold, has opened its new, cutting-edge technology centre, marking a significant advancement in the company’s efforts to innovate coating processes and develop new products. This facility is set to enhance the company’s technical capabilities and foster deeper collaboration with customers and academic partners.
Spanning 1000 square meters, the new technology centre is designed as a hub for testing, development, and innovation in surface technology. It provides an ideal environment for Plantag to work closely with clients from the furniture industry and trade crafts, enabling the creation and optimization of innovative products. Additionally, the centre is a key resource for the Technical University of East Westphalia-Lippe (TH OWL), with which Plantag has a long-standing partnership. Over the past 15 years, the company has hosted internships for students in the Wood Surface Technology program, and the new centre offers enhanced facilities for these academic collaborations.
Equipped with an array of modern machinery, the centre features surface sanding machines, spray coating machines, filler and putty machines, roller coaters, various types of UV dryers, a paint booth for manual application, an ESH system, and fusion UV dryers. Complementing these are laboratory drying ovens, a test laboratory, and woodworking machines, providing a comprehensive suite of tools for both practical application and experimental research.
The transition to the new facility took place in the last quarter of 2023, with operations commencing in early 2024. The centre is utilized by Plantag’s application technology field service and development laboratories, facilitating close interaction and seamless communication with the nearby production facility. This proximity ensures that customer visits, whether for demonstrations or collaborative development, are easily accommodated.
Dr. Thomas Müller, CEO of Plantag Coatings GmbH, emphasized the centre’s role in driving the company’s innovation forward: “Our new technology centre is a cornerstone for advancing our capabilities in coating technologies. It will enable us to push the boundaries of product development and strengthen our partnerships within the industry.”
The establishment of this technology centre positions Plantag Coatings at the forefront of innovation in the coating industry, reflecting its commitment to leading the market through advanced technology and collaborative development.
