New wood exhibition in London showcases Finnish innovations

March 20, 2026

The New Wood exhibition in London highlights Finnish innovations that replace fossil-derived materials with renewable wood in a range of everyday products. The exhibition will be on display at The Garrison Chapel in Chelsea, London, from March 9 to 27, 2026.

The shift away from fossil-based raw materials requires scalable and renewable alternatives. Stora Enso is creating better choices for society by accelerating the transition to a circular bioeconomy. Their purpose is to do good for people and the planet, and to replace non-renewable materials with renewable products.

Stora Enso’s product portfolio in the exhibition:

Papira®: A bio-based foam for a plastic-free future

Stora Enso has great news for the packaging industry, and every company seeking to reduce their dependence on fossil sources. Papira® by Stora Enso is our breakthrough innovation, a foam designed to reduce plastics and waste in future packaging solutions. This bio-based and recyclable alternative to fossil-based materials proves that wood fibres can phase out expanded polystyrene (EPS) and polyethylene (PE) foams. Papira® by Stora Enso is the result of ingenuity – and our aim to make protective packaging renewable.

Premium folding carton boards for packaging

Their products can help your brand meet consumer demand for more sustainable packaging. The fiber for their carton boards comes from sustainably managed forests and trees that are a renewable resource, unlike fossil plastic and other non-renewable materials. Carton boards are recyclable and the most collected packaging materials for recycling in Europe.

The fresh fiber and strong, multi-layer structure of our boards bring benefits such as higher strength and stiffness at a lower weight. These in turn result in converting excellence, reliable packaging performance, and high material efficiency, so you’ll be able to reduce the weight without sacrificing package integrity, achieving a better alternative to heavier boards.

Marimekko’s gift packaging

How Marimekko and Stora Enso collaborated to design beautiful corrugated gift packaging that boosts customer experience whilst offering total protection and SKU optimisation.

Marimekko’s goal was to enhance user experience and eliminate unnecessary paper, ribbons or stickers while also protecting fragile products such as plates, vases, trays, and mugs. Expressing Marimekko’s brand identity with a sustainable premium feeling for customers was key.

Lignode®: The powerful potential of trees

The story of the Nordic forestry industry is one of evolution and adaptation, and Lignode® by Stora Enso is a product of the innovative backbone this heritage has fostered. Revolutionising the battery industry, our bio-based anode is made from an existing pulp industry by-product already being produced in millions of tonnes across Europe. Lignode® is the result of our passion for trees – and their commitment to develop breakthrough tree-based innovations.

They are the leading provider of renewable products in packaging, biomaterials, and wooden construction, and one of the largest private forest owners in the world. Store Enso creates better choices for society by accelerating the transition to a circular bioeconomy.
