Mirka

Mirka has grown meteorically since its inception and in 2023, the brand is celebrating its 80 years anniversary. Mirka has been at the forefront of significant advancements in the production of abrasives for eighty years. With its headquarters in the middle of rural Ostrobothnia, Finland, and a global network chain, the company is now proudly a forerunner in the surface finishing sector.

Mirka has experienced numerous landmarks over the previous 80 years. From the first subsidiary’s establishment in the UK in 1979 through the invention of dust-free sanding with the introduction of Abranet in 2001, not to mention the prize-winning power tools. Though the focus of the celebration this year will be reflection and looking back at the trip thus far, the company’s eyes are already turned toward the future.

Green Deal and green economy transition important, says Sjöberg
In terms of its physical structure, Mirka has changed significantly since its founding. However, their fundamental mission hasn’t changed: to provide people—their clients—the chance to perform better and achieve the ideal finish. This mission also motivates the brand in their day-to-day activities as they work to always enhance what they do. According to Stefan Sjöberg, CEO of Mirka, listening to their clients has always been the most crucial aspect of this.

Mirka radiates great pride in all of their accomplishments, but the company also acknowledges that in order to remain relevant, one must also look ahead to the next big thing, and the business sees a lot of potential in this area. In the upcoming years, the European Union’s Green Deal and the global transition to a green economy are something that will have a substantial impact on the company’s key goals, and how it is executed also remains equally vital. For the industry as a whole, and not just for Mirka. Corporations figuring out this puzzle will be crucial in the long run.

He is convinced that Mirka will shine bright to commemorate the company’s 90th and 100th anniversaries as well, based on the organisation as it stands today, Sjöberg concludes.
