 Wednesday, June 20, 2018

MT-CT-LogOptiSaw is a time-effective and affordable learning and networking opportunity for those driving the future of sawmilling in your operation. The focus is on the future of optimization and automation in our industry, including challenges and opportunities on the cutting edge of this side of the industry.

Optisaw recently concluded on June 5 and welcomed mill managers, owners, process engineers and improvement and optimization staff the opportunities to network with colleagues and technology providers.

The keynote speaker was Norvin Laudon, Chief Technology Officer, from Springer Microtec Inc.

Closing the loop: Using X-ray technology to execute CT Log scanner optimized sawing solutions at the sawline

A key component of CT log scanning in sawmills is the use of X-ray technology to allow scan data from a single CT Log Scanner to be used in multiple downstream areas in the sawmill. Springer-Microtec has recently installed three Microtec Logeye systems at a sawmill in North America to complement the mill’s existing CT Scanner. These new scanners identify the log and its rotational position at the sawmill and execute the original CT log optimized sawing solution performed in the log yard. This is the first installation of its kind in the world that identifies individual logs from a storage of over 100,000 logs.

Norvin Laudon explained the ground-breaking technologies involved, and describe some of the benefits that are realized.
