Following the devastating 2019 fire that led to the collapse of Notre-Dame Cathedral’s iconic spire, the restoration journey has been a remarkable endeavor. Now, as this cherished symbol of Paris and global cultural heritage reopens with its inauguration on December 7th and 8th, MiCROTEC is honoured to celebrate this historic milestone and proud to have contributed to the spire’s restoration.
Arianna Giudiceandrea, MiCROTEC’s Chief Sales Officer, remarks, “MiCROTEC is truly honored to have contributed its expertise to this extraordinary restoration. Being part of the effort to rebuild such a global symbol of culture and history is both humbling and inspiring.”
MiCROTEC’s innovative wood optimisation solutions supported the meticulous process of selecting the perfect oak trees for the reconstruction of the spire, originally designed by architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc. Collaborating closely with the Office National des Forêts (ONF), MiCROTEC helped ensure precision and sustainability by providing advanced optimisation technology to match each tree to its ideal beam, creating virtual models to guide the restoration process.
The process guided the selection of the best match with precision while avoiding wasting any trees. After receiving detailed, drone-captured images of the potential trees and advanced 3D models from the ONF, MiCROTEC identified and selected the most suitable oak trees. This success was made possible thanks to the expertise and dedication of MiCROTEC. “In our fully customised optimisation for Notre-Dame, we created virtual models of the beams to be used along with the tree models”, explained Thomas Gagliardi Product Manager MiCROTEC Log solutions.
