MiCROTEC has set a new industry benchmark by becoming the first company to receive official Type Approval from Biometria for log species recognition in Sweden. This certification applies to spruce and pine detection using MiCROTEC’s CT Log and Logeye scanners, revolutionizing automated log grading in the wood processing industry.
The approval follows extensive testing, where MiCROTEC AI neural networks were trained using x-ray data from Swedish pine and spruce logs. The system demonstrated an accuracy exceeding Biometria’s 98% approval criteria, proving its reliability for high-speed payment grading and internal sorting. Certification tests were conducted at SCA Bollsta (CT Log) and Hilmer Andersson (Logeye).
“It’s exciting that MiCROTEC develops the technology and possibilities for higher speeds on payment grading and internal sorting,” said Nils Andersson, Production Manager at Hilmer Andersson.
This breakthrough technology ensures automated species recognition with accuracy on par with—or superior to—human sorting. The new certified feature will be available as an upgrade for existing CT Log and Logeye 302 customers, reinforcing MiCROTEC’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in the timber industry.
