Metsä Fibre welcomes its new sawmill manager : Tuomas Arminen at Renko

 Tuesday, January 13, 2026

Metsä Fibre, the pulp and sawmill business of Metsä Group, has announced the appointment of M.Sc. (Engineering) Tuomas Arminen as the new Sawmill Manager of its Renko sawmill in southern Finland. The appointment took effect on 1 January 2026 and marks a strategic leadership move aimed at further strengthening the company’s sawn timber operations in a competitive Nordic forest industry landscape.

Arminen brings nearly two decades of experience in the sawmill and wood processing sector. He has been part of Metsä Fibre’s operations since 2008, during which time he has held several expert and leadership roles across the sawmill business. Most recently, he served as Development Director of sawn timber production, where he was responsible for advancing operational efficiency, production development, and long-term competitiveness across Metsä Fibre’s sawmill network.

In his new role at the Renko sawmill, Arminen will be responsible for overseeing daily operations, safety, production performance, and continuous improvement initiatives. He will report directly to Virva Juhola, Vice President, Sawn Timber Production, and will work closely with both local teams and group-level management to align the mill’s operations with Metsä Fibre’s strategic objectives.

The Renko sawmill plays an important role in Metsä Fibre’s Finnish sawmill portfolio, focusing on high-quality sawn timber products derived from sustainably managed northern forests. The facility supports the growing demand for renewable wood-based construction materials, particularly in European markets where low-carbon building solutions are increasingly prioritised.

Metsä Fibre is a key player in the global forest industry, producing not only pulp and sawn timber but also a broad range of bioproducts, including biochemicals and bioenergy. All products are based on responsibly sourced northern wood, offering renewable alternatives to fossil-based materials and supporting the transition to a bioeconomy.

In addition to its industrial focus, Metsä Fibre emphasises responsible business practices and workplace values. The company actively promotes diversity, equality, and inclusion, viewing a skilled and engaged workforce as essential to long-term success.

From a financial perspective, Metsä Fibre reported sales of approximately EUR 2.3 billion in 2024 and employs around 1,500 people. The company operates as part of Metsä Group, whose parent company, Metsäliitto Cooperative, is owned by more than 90,000 Finnish forest owners. Metsä Group’s total sales for the same year amounted to EUR 5.7 billion, highlighting its strong position in the global pulp, paper, and wood products industry.

With Tuomas Arminen’s appointment, Metsä Fibre signals a continued commitment to operational excellence, sustainable sawmilling, and leadership development within Finland’s forest-based bioeconomy.
