 Tuesday, June 4, 2019

More than 85 participants aggressively competed with power saws at the LIGNA Forestry Championship and fought in five specific discipline before the eyes of 15,000 spectators. The pavilion was filled with enthusiastic viewers from all over the woodworking industry.

The tough competition here needed strong and steady nerve as the analysis in the competition is conducted  through evaluation of only milimetres, and this decided victory. This year, Marco Trabert won the award in this category, while Maximilian Danziger on second place and Wolfgang Heidemann on third place.

This idea of breaking the monotony of the woodworkers in the forest by turning their routine daily tasks into a competition, LIGNA introduced this competition comprising of five key disciplines dates back to the 70s. The German Logging Championship and the International Logging Championship are both held every two years.

“While tree felling is the most important of the five disciplines, delimbing is probably the most spectacular,” mentioned VWMD (German Woodsmen’s Championships Association) President Wolfgang Junglas. “Contestants are scored in accordance with a sophisticated set of rules that is administered by an independent federal body. To be eligible to participate in the national championships, all contestants must first qualify in all five disciplines in accordance with VWMD rules in recognized regional championships. In concrete terms this means they must have gained at least 1,200 points in the U24 class or at least 1,300 points in the professional class” he concluded on this occasion.
