On Thursday, May 29, 2025, starting at 9 a.m., LIGNA will host the Forwarder Championships, a highlight of the world’s leading trade fair for woodworking and wood processing industries. Held in Hannover, this event gathers the finest forwarder and harvester drivers from Lower Saxony to compete for the state championship title.
The competition kicks off with the preliminary “Tower Building” round, where participants use cranes to stack wooden blocks into towers in the shortest possible time. The top 16 performers from this round advance to the Cup competition.
In the Cup stage, two drivers face off in identical forwarders, navigating a course with multiple stations requiring precise wood loading. Success in this round demands both speed and accuracy. The first driver to complete the course with minimal penalties moves on to subsequent rounds, culminating in the grand final in the afternoon.
Winners will be honored at 4 p.m. in the outdoor area’s “Earth Garden.” The event is organized by the Arbeitsgemeinschaft forstwirtschaftlicher Lohnunternehmer Niedersachsen e.V. (Lower Saxony Forestry Contractors’ Association) in collaboration with Deutsche Messe AG.
LIGNA 2025, celebrating its 50th anniversary, runs from May 26 to 30 in Hannover. The fair showcases innovations in woodworking and wood processing, emphasizing sustainability and digitalization. Attendees can explore the latest technologies, attend expert presentations, and network with industry leaders.
The Forwarder Championships exemplify the blend of tradition and innovation that defines LIGNA. Spectators can witness firsthand the skill and precision required in modern forestry operations. As the industry evolves, events like this highlight the ongoing importance of expertise and excellence in forestry practices.
