Kastamonu Entegre tops the Energy Efficiency category

Kastamonu Entegre was awarded the top honour in the Energy Efficiency category during the 9th Efficiency Project Awards Ceremony organised by the Ministry of Industry and Technology.

The company’s remarkable initiatives, which pave the way in the wood-based panel sector through inventive energy management solutions and projects, have been acknowledged once more with this prestigious accolade, underscoring its commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency.

Since 2014, the Efficiency Project Awards ceremony, organised by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, has celebrated companies prioritising efficiency in their operations, particularly in energy efficiency. Out of 75 finalists spanning 12 categories, 35 standout projects were honored during the ceremony held at the Informatics Valley, graced by the presence of Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır.

As part of these awards receiving 596 project applications in 2023, Kastamonu Entegre, the global player of the wood-based panel industry, was awarded the first prize in the Energy Efficiency category. Bearing in mind the importance attached to sustainability, Kastamonu Entegre executes all its business processes in consideration of environmental, social and economic impacts. It started carbon footprint calculation in 2015 to measure the environmental impact of its production and investments.

The company has garnered numerous national and international accolades for its endeavors in this domain. Engaged in EU initiatives, it pioneers circular business models, devises intelligent energy management solutions, and explores bio-based alternatives to fossil fuels. Within the scope of the SNUG Project funded by the European Union’s 9th Framework Program “Horizon Europe,” Kastamonu Entegre will manufacture bio-based insulation panels for construction materials. These panels, crafted entirely from natural resources, aim to conserve energy in buildings and alleviate environmental footprints in construction practices.

Kastamonu Entegre’s CEO Halk Yıldız underlined Kastamonu Entegre’s being the first company to prepare a sustainability report in the wood-based panel industry and its leading role in energy management and said, “As a global company originating from these lands, we are aware of our responsibilities to our country, our people and the ecosystem. We take steps with a focus on sustainability in all our production processes and investments. Energy efficiency plays a key role in our sustainability strategy.

We enhance our energy efficiency performance every year with the innovative projects we develop. We work very hard to maximize energy efficiency in every area from production to waste management. We are a corporation accredited by many national and international systems on energy management and efficiency.

We are the first corporation in the wood-based panel industry not only to prepare a sustainability report but also to achieve both high energy efficiency with less investment cost and more effective waste management thanks to the ‘Waste Biomass Gasification’ technology. We will continue to work in line with the “2050 Net Zero” target and create value by achieving green and digital transformation together. The awards we receive from reputable organizations makes us further determined on this journey.”

Self-powered factory

Awarded the energy efficiency prize, Kastamonu Entegre’s Adana MDF plant generates its own electric power with the Hayat-GES 1 Solar Power Station installed on its roof. In addition, diesel-fueled lift trucks are converted into electric lift trucks in the plant, reducing energy costs and taking an important step towards eliminating C02 emissions due to the use of diesel fuel.
