Kastamonu Entegre strengthens its sustainability efforts

Kastamonu Entegre, a global leader in the wood-based panel industry, is making significant strides in sustainability with substantial investments in renewable energy slated for completion by the end of 2024. The company aims to enhance its recycling rate to 50 percent in 2024 through circular solutions and renewable energy initiatives.

Renewable Energy Investments
Kastamonu Entegre is intensifying its commitment to sustainability by investing heavily in renewable energy. By the end of 2024, the corporation plans to generate 273 thousand MWh of energy annually through biomass and solar power plants at its facilities in Kastamonu, Balıkesir, Adana, Samsun, and Gebze.

These investments, amounting to $70 million—with $50 million already invested by the end of 2023 and an additional $20 million planned for 2024—will produce enough energy to power 100 thousand homes for a year. Furthermore, these renewable energy efforts will prevent 140 thousand tonnes of carbon emissions annually. Kastamonu Entegre’s long-term strategy aims to boost investments in renewable energy to $170 million by 2026, meeting 65% of the company’s energy needs through these initiatives.

100% Recycled Manufacturing and Self-Powered Factories
Kastamonu Entegre’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its operations across six countries. The company is the only Turkish participant in the European Commission’s bio-based industrial initiative and has implemented numerous projects to reduce energy consumption, activate waste recycling, and minimize carbon emissions and environmental impacts.

The company’s sustainability practices have garnered recognition from prestigious organisations worldwide. Notably, Kastamonu Entegre was awarded the “Energy Efficiency” prize at the 9th Efficiency Project Awards Ceremony held by the Ministry of Industry and Technology. The company’s plants in Adana, Kastamonu, and Samsun generate their own electricity through solar power installations on their roofs. Additionally, the conversion of diesel-fueled lift trucks to electric lift trucks at these plants has significantly reduced energy costs and carbon emissions.

Kastamonu Entegre’s factory in Italy stands out for its 100% recycling rate in manufacturing. The company is committed to replicating this achievement at other manufacturing sites, furthering its sustainability goals.

With these ambitious projects and investments, Kastamonu Entegre is setting a new benchmark in the wood-based panel industry, demonstrating that environmental responsibility and industrial success can go hand in hand.
