IKEA has officially opened its new store in Brighton, marking a significant milestone in the retailer’s strategy to expand its presence in city centres. The new store, located in the heart of Brighton at Churchill Square Shopping Centre, opens its doors to customers today, offering them easy access to IKEA’s iconic home furnishing range. This is a key part of IKEA’s plan to bring its products closer to where people live, work, and shop across the UK.
The grand opening was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by Councillor Amanda Grimshaw BEM, along with the store’s 150 team members. The momentous occasion saw the first customers exploring the new space as the doors were officially opened at 10am.
A New Concept for City Living
The opening of IKEA Brighton is part of the company’s broader strategy to introduce smaller, more accessible store formats in city centres. The new store spans an impressive 6,695 square metres over two storeys and is designed with the community in mind. It features five roomsets that were co-created with local residents, reflecting the real-life living conditions of those in the city.
Customers can browse a curated selection of 2,600 home furnishing accessories and small furniture items available for immediate purchase. For larger items, the store offers the convenience of ordering from IKEA’s full product range, with the option for home delivery or collection.
IKEA Brighton delivers a comprehensive and traditional IKEA experience, complete with inspiring roomsets, a market hall, and expert planning consultations for kitchens and bedroom storage. The store also introduces second-hand finds in the Re-Shop and Re-use section, where customers can discover sustainable products. Popular dining options, including a Swedish Deli and a 100-seater restaurant, are available for those looking to enjoy a taste of Sweden while shopping.
A Warm Welcome to the Community
“We are thrilled to officially open the doors of IKEA Brighton in the heart of the city. We’ve received such a warm welcome from the community, and it’s been a pleasure to celebrate the opening with our first customers,” said an IKEA spokesperson. “This store represents our commitment to making IKEA more accessible to city residents. Whether customers are visiting to explore our inspiring roomsets, plan their dream spaces, or simply enjoy a taste of Sweden, we hope everyone feels at home here.”
Mark Buchanan-Smith, Meeting Place Manager at Churchill Square, added, “We’re incredibly excited to welcome IKEA to Churchill Square as it opens its very first store in Brighton. This long-anticipated moment marks a significant milestone for the city and reflects what our community has been asking for. IKEA will become a crucial part of our Meeting Place experience – helping us create a vibrant destination where people come together to shop, eat, and enjoy meaningful moments in the heart of Brighton & Hove.”
Grand Opening Celebrations and Special Offers
IKEA Brighton’s opening was marked by a series of fun activities for the customers. The store’s co-workers celebrated with seagull mascots, a magician, and music, providing entertainment for those queuing to be among the first to enter the store. After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, several surprises awaited the first visitors, including live music, food sampling, mocktail tastings, and a “spin the wheel” game with IKEA vouchers and prizes to be won. A beach-hut design competition for children also added to the excitement.
To further commemorate the occasion, IKEA has launched a number of special offers. The first 100 IKEA Family Members to visit the store will receive a gift card, with amounts ranging from £1 to £1,000. Additionally, customers who shop at IKEA Brighton in August will receive a £5 voucher printed on their receipt, which can be used in September on a £50+ purchase.
A Key Addition to Brighton’s Retail Landscape
The opening of IKEA Brighton marks the retailer’s third city-centre location in the UK, following the launch of IKEA Oxford Street in London. Located in Churchill Square Shopping Centre, the store is conveniently accessible by public transport, foot, or bike, making it an ideal location for local residents.
With its smaller format and easy accessibility, IKEA Brighton offers a new shopping experience for customers in the city. The opening is a significant step in IKEA’s commitment to bringing home furnishing solutions closer to urban communities across the UK.
