HOLZ-HANDWERK 2020 edition cancelled

 Tuesday, April 14, 2020

Extraordinary situation demands extraordinary decision, and in the present COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, the organisers NürnbergMesse and VDMA Woodworking Machinery have decided to cancel the HOLZ-HANDWERK and FENSTERBAU FRONTALE 2020 edition, in agreement with the Department of Environment and Health of the City of Nürnberg.

The uncertain situation is leading to a declining willingness to invest also in the woodworking industry and in window, door and facade construction, combined with declining sales and production stops. At the same time, limited business activity due to official orders and international travel restrictions in many places make it difficult for trade fair participants to plan and prepare for their participation. HOLZ-HANDWERK and FENSTERBAU FRONTALE will take place again in 2022, from March 29 to April 1, as scheduled according to the biennial rotation.

“We would like to express our sincere thanks for the numerous trusting and constructive discussions with industry representatives over the past few days, who have supported us in our decision-making process. Our goal of creating a special experience for exhibitors and visitors with the events HOLZ-HANDWERK and FENSTERBAU FRONTALE and enabling the varied establishment and expansion of business relations cannot be realized under the influence of the Corona crisis,” says Petra Wolf, Member of the Management Board of NürnbergMesse. Over 1,300 exhibitors from 42 countries and more than 110,000 visitors from well over 100 countries were originally expected at HOLZ-HANDWERK and FENSTERBAU FRONTALE 2020.

Due to the increased spread of the corona virus, NürnbergMesse had initially postponed HOLZ-HANDWERK und FENSTERBAU FRONTALE from March to June 2020. “Of course we are sad that HOLZ-HANDWERK and FENSTERBAU FRONTALE cannot take place,” adds Elke Harreiß, Director FENSTERBAU FRONTALE. “For our exhibitors and visitors we would have liked to hold the fairs on an alternative date in 2020. However, the dynamic developments around the corona pandemic ultimately necessitate the decision to cancel, which is being taken in close coordination with the Department of Environment and Health of the City of Nürnberg.“

“The need for information and exchange will be greater than ever after this crisis,” says Stefan Dittrich, Director of HOLZ-HANDWERK. “HOLZ-HANDWERK and FENSTERBAU FRONTALE, as leading trade fairs, will continue to offer the sectors orientation and remain platforms for business success. That is why we are now looking ahead and setting the course for 2022, and we are convinced that nothing can replace personal contact in the business world either.”

“As regrettable as the cancellation of HOLZ-HANDWERK is – it is in the interests of the industry”, says Dr. Bernhard Dirr, Managing Director of VDMA Woodworking Machinery. “The priority now for all those involved must be to deal with the economic effects of the Corona pandemic. In 2022 HOLZ-HANDWERK can once again be the central business platform for the woodworking trade in what will hopefully be a strong economic environment.“
