Glennon Brothers, a leading name in the European timber processing industry, has been crowned the ‘Softwood Trader: Sawmiller of the Year’ at the prestigious Timber Trade Journal (TTJ) Awards 2025. This marks the sixth time the company has claimed this coveted industry accolade, reinforcing its position as a titan in the softwood sawmilling and timber supply chain across the UK and Ireland. The announcement was the highlight of the 29th annual TTJ Awards ceremony, a pinnacle event in the timber sector calendar, held at the Hilton Bankside Hotel in London. The awards, now in their 152nd year of publication, are uniquely respected as they are decided by votes from customers—the timber importers, distributors, and builders’ merchants who form the magazine’s core readership across Europe, the UK, and Ireland. Winning in a voted category, especially against what was described as an “exceptionally strong list of fellow nominees,” underscores the deep-seated trust and high regard the market holds for the family-run business.
The 2025 win is particularly significant, as it sees Glennon Brothers regain the award after a remarkable run of five consecutive victories from 2019 to 2023. This victory not only confirms their consistent quality but also demonstrates the company’s resilience and ability to adapt and thrive in what is currently a dynamic and often challenging economic and construction climate across the region.
Mike Glennon, Joint Managing Director, expressed his immense gratitude, saying, “We are delighted to win the prestigious TTJ award for Softwood Trader: Sawmiller of the Year 2025. To follow up on our success of previously winning it five times in a row between 2019 and 2023, it is especially pleasing to regain the award again in 2025.” He extended sincere thanks to the company’s clientele, emphasising, “I’d like to sincerely thank our customers for voting for Glennon Brothers, and for their continued support and faith in us.”
The core of Glennon Brothers’ success lies in its vertically integrated, ‘from forest to front door’ business model. This commitment to controlling the entire supply chain, from sustainable forestry management to the final delivery of construction, fencing, and pallet wood products, ensures consistency, quality, and reliability for customers.
“We continue to endeavour to support our customers as best we possibly can, ‘from forest to front door,’ and their reciprocal commitment to Glennon Brothers is so greatly appreciated,” Mike Glennon noted. This focus on long-term relationships and reliable service is a key differentiator, particularly important in a sector that has faced recent supply chain volatility and fluctuating demand, as noted in broader industry reports on the profitability of UK wood-based panels producers.
Pat Glennon, also a Joint Managing Director, highlighted the award’s profound internal significance. “Picking up this award for the sixth time is another proud moment for Glennon Brothers and will mean an awful lot to our colleagues,” he commented. The sawmilling and timber engineering firm has a vast operational footprint, with major plants and design centres in Longford and Fermoy in Ireland, and key UK locations in Enniskillen, Troon, Windymains (near Humbie, East Lothian), Irvine, and Invergordon in Scotland.
The dedication of the team across these locations is crucial, as the company is a significant employer in both the UK and Ireland. “Over 930 families in the UK and Ireland depend on Glennon Brothers for their livelihood. On their behalf, I would like to say a big thank you for your business,” Mike Glennon added, underlining the widespread impact of the company’s continued success. The recognition from customers, he concluded, is a “fantastic achievement for our entire team.”
The significance of the TTJ Awards
The Timber Trade Journal, published in the UK for over 150 years, remains one of the most respected magazines covering the global and domestic timber sector. Its coverage spans forestry, production technology (including the machinery used to produce the TTJ Awards trophies themselves), distribution, and end-user markets.
The TTJ Awards ceremony is not merely a celebration but a crucial barometer of industry health and performance, connecting the entire ecosystem from raw material processing to construction. For a Softwood Sawmiller—a core industrial segment providing essential materials like carcassing timber for house building and structural components—to win a voted award six times over a short period demonstrates extraordinary product quality, timely delivery, and exceptional customer service. This achievement serves as an inspirational benchmark for the entire woodworking and construction supply chain, highlighting how investment, operational discipline, and a customer-first philosophy lead to industry recognition and commercial success, even as the wider industry navigates periods of economic slowdown.
Glennon Brothers’ repeated victory stands as a clear indicator of market preference for reliable, high-quality timber products, solidifying their status as a preferred supplier and industry leader in the evolving landscape of sustainable construction.
