SCM_smart timber industry

Forum Holzbau, the most important global initiative dedicated to the timber construction industry, arrives in Memmingen (Germany) on March 18 to 19, for a new edition of Technik & Wirtschaft (HTW).

As a key player in the sector’s supply chain, SCM will take part in the event, with an even richer offering of technological and digital innovations designed to meet the most current and complex production needs of the timber construction sector. An offering built around a clear objective: helping modern carpenters adopt faster, smarter processes across a wide variety of applications, including structural beams, CLT walls and floor elements, prefabricated walls, roofs, trusses and insulation panels.

OIKOS XS 650: cross the line to smarter productivity
Among the latest cutting-edge technologies is the 5-axis CNC machining centre “oikos xs 650”, a concrete example of a “smart” solution designed to meet customer needs through a unique combination of versatility and precision. Engineered for beams with cross-sections up to 650×310 mm and as small as 40×20 mm, it features an exclusive telescopic support for accurate machining, a full-stroke clamp and up to 9 operating units, enabling “oikos xs 650” to process all six faces of a beam in a single pass, without rotating the workpiece. This ensures high productivity, superior finish quality, compact footprint and competitive costs.

This new solution, as well as all SCM’s CNC machining centres for timber construction, is equipped with Maestro lab beam&wall, a powerful programming software developed by SCM, compatible with the most widely adopted design CAD systems in the timber construction industry.

Fully integrated with the Maestro active beam&wall HMI, it supports programming both from the office PC and directly at the machine, enhancing operational flexibility and overall efficiency.
Additionally, the machining centre is equipped with SCM’s IoT platform application for real-time monitoring of the performance of connected machines.

AREA GL: modular CNC technology for straight and curved glulam elements
HTW will also be a chance to find out the latest addition to SCM’s AREA range: “area gl”, 5-axis CNC machining centre, designed for processing straight and curved glulam elements intended for public building roofs, multi-storey buildings and infrastructure projects.

With a robust mobile-gantry structure and a work area up to 5 meters wide and over 50 meters long, area gl allows complete machining of all six faces of the workpiece without repositioning, using suction supports for thicknesses up to 550 mm.  Its modular configuration, with options for a fixed worktable or movable bar-worktable, ensures maximum production flexibility; a special system of movable safety fences ensures safe operation in pendulum mode, while still allowing easy access to the work area.

Equipped with a 30 kW effective machining head unit, it guarantees high performance, precision, and reliability in the execution of large architectural projects, designed using the leading CAD systems in the industry.

OIKOS X+: CNC machining centre for linear wooden elements
Another standout model in the range is the “oikos x+”, the CNC machining centre specifically designed for high-volume production of solid wood and glulam beams, with a maximum cross-section of 1,250×300 mm, ideal for the construction of roofs, residential buildings, and public structures.

The “oikos x+” is equipped with:

Thanks to a cutting depth of up to 300 mm and ability to manage beams up to 300 mm thick, the Oikos x+ meets a wide range of customer needs. Its robust structure guarantees high precision and excellent absorption of the stresses generated during processing, making it the perfect choice for carpenters working on laminated timber and looking for high productivity.

CELASCHI XL and DMC SYSTEM XL: advanced technologies for CLT panels
SCM team will also illustrate the new “celaschi xl” double-end profiling machine specifically designed to optimise the production flow in CLT processing. It allows machining operations to be redistributed from the CNC machining centre to the profiling machine, guaranteeing greater productivity and maximum precision in the rebating and squaring operations on CLT walls.

Four 44 kW electrospindles per machine side deliver the power needed to perform notches and rebates in one pass, even on high-density elements. The solid structure and use of premium industrial components minimize vibrations, ensuring superior finishing quality. The chain transport system ensures smooth and precise feed, even for large-format and high-thickness panels.  The “celaschi xl” is equipped with the Maestro active square HMI software, managed via the eye-M PRIME touchscreen console. The intuitive interface allows full control of the machine, simplifying programming and reducing operator training time.

Completing SCM’s range of solutions for CLT panels machining is “dmc system xl”, automatic calibrating-sanding machine that with its modules is able to process both top and bottom face of CLT panels up to 3.700 mm wide and 500 mm thick. The very high configuration versatility of the machine is granted by the possibility to combine and integrate between each other the bottom roller, top/bottom pad and crossbelt units.

“Dmc system xl” is conceived to last long and to withstand the most intense machining thank to its solid steel structure that grants zero-vibration.

Energy saving is a key issue, since the machine has been specifically engineered with an optimised design for minimum compressed air consumption. This solution aims at improving the surface finishing and increasing the value of the finished product.
