For the furniture business, interior design, and construction, Koskisen‘s Finnish chipboard products offer the widest range of chipboards. Since sawdust is a by-product of the manufacture of plywood and sawmills, it is supplied to Koskisen’s chipboard factory as a raw material. This means that the majority of the sawdust used as a raw material comes from its production. The Sawn Timber and Panel Industry claims that Koskisen doesn’t waste even sawdust, which further demonstrates the value placed on this precious raw resource.
A byproduct of the sawmill sector connected to long-cycle carbon products
“Many sawmills sell their sawdust for combustion, or the sawdust goes as raw material for the pulp and paper industry. In our case, most, if not all, is used for our use and tied to long-cycle carbon products,” distinguishes Tommi Sneck, Director of Koskisen’s Sawn Timber Industry. The natural carbon cycle is extended, for instance, when wood is used in construction. Throughout the product’s life, the carbon stored in it is removed from the cycle. It is only released as carbon dioxide into the atmosphere when the product breaks down, like when it burns or rots. Wood items are long-lasting in building.

Chipboard that is exclusively Finnish
“Koskisen has the only chipboard factory in Finland in Järvelä, and most of the production remains in Finland. Our customers, therefore, also receive purely Finnish and sustainably produced chipboard,” persuades Tom-Peter Helenius, Director of Koskisen’s Panel Industry. Helenius also mentions the finished product’s traceability and transparency as advantages of Koskisen’s chipboard goods. The Nordic Swan Eco Label has also been given to Koskisen’s chipboard goods.
From a broader perspective, Koskisen’s sector also produces exceptionally high-quality by-products. In contrast to chipboards made from reclaimed wood in Central Europe, Koskinen’s product is free of these contaminants. “Our chipboard is one of the cleanest. Thanks to this, it is easy to process and more cost-effective for our customers in the long run, as the customer’s machine tools and their blades stay in better condition for longer,” points out Helenius.
