Fagus-GreCon secures European patent for GreCon IEM

 Wednesday, March 19, 2025

GreCon Intelligent Extinguishing Module

The European Patent Office has granted Fagus-GreCon intellectual property rights for the GreCon IEM (Intelligent Extinguishing Module), recognising its breakthrough in fire prevention technology. By integrating its proprietary Intelligent Extinguishment Technology™, Fagus-GreCon has enhanced its proven extinguishing automation with cutting-edge monitoring and diagnostics.

Utilising advanced sensor technology, the GreCon IEM not only detects water flow but also monitors flow pressure, electrical parameters, and temperatures—identifying early signs of wear for predictive maintenance. This innovation marks a significant leap in spark extinguishing systems, ensuring enhanced fire safety and operational efficiency.

This makes Fagus-GreCon the only provider worldwide to ensure that the ultra-fine water mist required for optimal extinguishing is correctly formed in the hazard area – a crucial factor for highly effective fire suppression and system protection.

Patent Grant Confirms Practical Innovation
The patent approval highlights Fagus-GreCon’s customer-centric approach to development.

“Innovation does not happen in the laboratory but in real-world applications – where challenges threaten smooth operations,” says Dr Michael Mehlhorn, Head of Global R&D Fire Prevention at Fagus-GreCon. “Our goal is to develop solutions that address real-world problems. To achieve this, we maintain close dialogue with our customers, analyse their requirements, and implement them with technical precision and our ever-present pioneering spirit.”

Increased system availability and enhanced safety
Designed for use in ongoing production operations, the GreCon IEM supports manufacturers across industries in reducing unplanned downtime in potentially flammable environments while significantly enhancing operational safety. At the same time, the optimised and reduced extinguishing water volume minimises the environmental impact in the event of an unexpected incident.

In its expandable configurations, the system also offers micro-leak detection and an integrated frost monitoring function, ensuring uninterrupted operation even in low temperatures.
