Columbus: A perfect EGGER-Siempelkamp partnership

 Friday, October 9, 2020

Siempelkamp again proved it’s strength by achieving a visionary project. This project has achieved a key milestone. At the EGGER plant in Lexington / North Carolina, a greenfield particle board system with a forming and pressing line made by Siempelkamp produced its first board on September 19. This means it is now possible to create high-quality EGGER products from local, American wood too.

The project between EGGER and Siempelkamp, who have been partners for many years, is being managed under the name “Columbus” – a very fitting name when it comes to visionary thinking and action. The new particle board system contains the continuous 10’ x 43.7 m ContiRoll® press and was put into operation at the EGGER site in Lexington, making it the 15th ContiRoll® in operation at an EGGER facility. The scope of delivery also included two dryers from Siempelkamp’s subsidiary Büttner, along with size-reduction technology from Siempelkamp’s subsidiary Pallmann.

Thanks to the excellent cooperation with EGGER professionals on site with Siempelkamp’s teams in Krefeld, it was possible to continue the commissioning process even during the Corona-related disruption via remote service. “As soon as we were able to enter the USA again, the Siempelkamp team provided the usual highly dedicated support on site. Ultimately, we managed to produce the first board slightly later than planned, but within the original time window we were aiming for – which is a success for us all”, reports Siempelkamp project manager Stefan Wolff.

“Our project in Lexington confirmed that long-established partnerships like the one between EGGER and Siempelkamp benefit from the fact that customer demands can be addressed perfectly with well-coordinated teams. After this recent milestone, we wish EGGER Lexington every success in its efforts to convince North America long-term of the quality of EGGER products”, says Rolf Trummel, Key Account EGGER at Siempelkamp.

The Lexington site – the 20th EGGER plant – plays a crucial role in expanding the presence of the internationally leading wood materials manufacturer on the North American market. Local customers benefit from guaranteed product availability and accelerated delivery speeds. The range of offers, quality and pricing of the company’s product portfolio match the requirements of the target group, which includes architects, designers, industrial clients, and wholesalers.
