Egger purchased 60% of the stock in the Italian company Saib that manufactures wood-based materials. With a strong emphasis on design and sustainability, the Caorso-based company Saib has been one of Italy’s top producers of wood-based materials for 60 years. The majority shareholding by Egger in this globally engaged group of firms allows for additional expansion and synergies for the facility, which employs about 200 people. By making this investment, Egger is endorsing its plan for continued expansion in its home market of Europe.

Joint growth opportunities

The synergies of the acquisition are emphasised by Thomas Leissing, Speaker of the Egger Group Management. He maintained that Saib was one of the major suppliers to the Italian furniture sector and that Italy was one of the top European producers of furniture. With a controlling stake in Saib, Egger is expanding its product lineup with the help of Italian design experience, opening up new markets, and improving capacity.

The Saib facility in Caorso will continue to be run by the Giuseppe Conti, Clara Conti, and Sergio Doriguzzi families. “The integration of our company into the international Egger Group gives us a growth perspective for the Caorso production plant and our employees,” Clara Conti explains the company’s share sale.

Egger’s investment in Saib is a perfect match and offers significant growth potential for both firms. Saib and Egger are both family-owned businesses that were almost simultaneously created and share similar ideals regarding sustainable business and dependable partnerships.

Saib is a well-known brand among Italian manufacturers of raw and melamine-faced chipboard panels. This success was made possible by a consistent investment in cutting-edge and environmentally friendly technological systems that can guarantee products of the highest quality while fully protecting the environment. By implementing the Rewood (producing sustainable chipboards with wood scrap from wood that has already been used and discarded with zero impact on nature) philosophy, Saib started its transition from using virgin wood to end-of-life wood in 1994. Currently, the business recycles roughly 500,000 tonnes of wood waste annually through garbage sorting.
