The successful modernisation project at EGGER in Wismar saw an OSB plant resume operations five days ahead of schedule following a project-related shutdown of just 52 days. This achievement marks yet another significant milestone in the long-standing collaboration between EGGER and Siempelkamp.
The aim of the modernisation was to achieve a significant increase in capacity of at least 15% at the OSB plant, which Siempelkamp delivered in 1999 and commissioned in 2000. The project included the installation of new mat formers and the integration of a Contitherm® preheating system. The ContiRoll® continuous press was equipped with new hot platens and pressure distribution plates. An improved hydraulic control system was also installed to optimise.
The contract between EGGER and Siempelkamp was finalised in April 2024, with preliminary planning for the modernisation project beginning at a meeting in mid-June 2024. By October 29th, 2025, the first board was produced, marking the completion of the OSB plant’s shutdown five days ahead of the original schedule.
EGGER produces OSB, MDF and HDF boards as well as laminate flooring at the Wismar plant, which it opened in 1999 as one of currently seven EGGER locations in Germany. The site employs around 850 people and the wood-based panel producer is one of the largest employers in the north-west of MecklenburgWestern Pomerania.
“After 25 years of producing OSB boards in Wismar, it was time to bring core aspects of our board production – forming, pressing and extraction – up to the latest technical standards and to increase competitiveness by raising performance. The excellent cooperation between Siempelkamp and EGGER in project planning and implementation was one of the keys to the success that
resulted in the early commissioning,” says Raimund Hagspiel, Managing Director of EGGER in Wismar.
“This success is the result of a top team performance by all involved. Everyone – from development to commissioning – did a great job and cooperation was consistently constructive and appreciative. We want to thank EGGER’s team in Wismar for their trust and are looking forward to more joint projects,” says Dr.
Stephan Niggeschmidt, CEO of the Business Unit Service within the Siempelkamp Group.
