DIEFFENBACHER acquires Italian manufacturer Pagnoni Impianti

In a strategic move to enhance its service offerings, German machine and plant manufacturer DIEFFENBACHER has acquired the Italian family-owned company Pagnoni Impianti S.r.l., based in Aicurzio, near Milan. The company, now operating as Pagnoni DIEFFENBACHER S.r.l., brings with it over 170 years of expertise in manufacturing specialised presses and systems for wood-based panel production. The acquisition includes all assets and expertise of Pagnoni Impianti, as well as its experienced four-person team led by Managing Director Michele Pagnoni, the sixth generation of the Pagnoni family to head the business.

Founded in 1848 by brothers Stefano and Martino Pagnoni, the company originally produced oil presses and pasta-shaping machines. Under the leadership of Nicola Pagnoni after World War I, the company shifted its focus to hot-plate presses, especially for plywood production. Over the decades, Pagnoni Impianti became a specialist in single- and multi-opening presses, press lines for particleboard, MDF, and HPL decorative laminates, among other products.

A Perfect Fit for DIEFFENBACHER

“Pagnoni fits perfectly with our values,” said Lukas Langer, CFO of DIEFFENBACHER. “The company’s commitment to high-quality, well-engineered machines and partnership-based business aligns with DIEFFENBACHER’s mission. Their ability to deliver customized solutions makes them a valuable addition to our group. Michele Pagnoni brings deep technical expertise and industry recognition, further strengthening our service capabilities.”

As a first step, DIEFFENBACHER will focus on maintaining and enhancing relationships with Pagnoni’s existing customers, ensuring smooth transitions. According to Ralf Schmidt, Head of Global Lifetime Service Wood & Recycling at DIEFFENBACHER, customers can continue to work with their familiar Pagnoni contacts while also benefiting from DIEFFENBACHER’s global service network. The acquisition ensures that customers worldwide, from Southeast Asia to North America, can access faster service and spare parts, improving delivery efficiency.

Synergies and Expansion Opportunities

DIEFFENBACHER sees significant synergies in the acquisition, particularly since both companies share a similar customer base. This integration will allow joint customers to benefit from a one-stop-shop for products and services. In the medium term, DIEFFENBACHER plans to incorporate Pagnoni’s short-cycle, HPL, and plywood plants into its product portfolio, enhancing its existing offerings in wood-based panel production and other specialised presses.

“The acquisition of Pagnoni is a logical expansion of our services,” said Stefan Zipf, Head of DIEFFENBACHER’s Wood Business Unit. “Their technology complements our capabilities and will help us serve our customers better.”

A Broader Future for DIEFFENBACHER

Looking ahead, the integration of Pagnoni products and know-how will strengthen DIEFFENBACHER’s market position and broaden its range of solutions. The acquisition aligns with the company’s strategy to enhance its global reach and provide more comprehensive solutions to customers.

“We warmly welcome Michele Pagnoni and his team to the DIEFFENBACHER Group,” concluded Langer. “We look forward to a successful partnership and the exciting opportunities this acquisition will bring.”
