Catas Quality Award

Technical standards are a key asset that are internationally recognised and serve as the foundation for the free commercialisation of products in an increasingly global economy. Through these standards, the quality, safety, and all other values of a product may be made objective.

While standards are valuable, they may not fully showcase every product aspect. Product certification offers a more thorough examination, as demonstrated in the outdoor paint sector where exposure to sunlight and climate is crucial. Standards set the test method but don’t guarantee performance in all conditions.

To emphasise specific characteristics, conduct targeted tests such as adhesion under wet conditions instead of measuring micro-foam, preserving overall performance. Control data with CATAS-WKI certification, evaluated at Catas in Italy and WKI Institute in Germany based on diverse criteria and locations.

A Catas-certified product with the “CQA-Catas Quality Award” meets current standards. Catas checks it regularly for consistent quality in production. Additionally, Catas’ active role includes technicians contributing to standardisation groups and thorough laboratory testing for potentially critical product factors under different conditions of use.

A study on “paint softening” has been ongoing for years at Catas and the UNI-Italian body. Participants in this context must identify issues and discuss potential changes to product formulation or application methods, possibly prompting authorities to reconsider testing requirements.

About Catas

For over fifty years, Catas led in the “Paint Softening” process improvement, making its technicians top international experts. Catas has been part of the “Wood Coating Congress” scientific committee since 1998, and moderated an important session on coating measurements at the latest event.

In terms of experimental data and audience requests for further information, this session was undoubtedly one of the richest. The study that Catas gave on a new test to evaluate the “paint softening” problem—which affects both indoor furniture and outdoor objects like window and door frames—attracted a lot of attention.

The growing significance of environmental and sustainability issues, as well as the strong trend of substituting raw materials from renewable sources for ingredients derived from the petrochemical industry, were highlighted at the “Wood Coating Congress.” Catas is ready to respond to this by offering its “CQA Safe, Durable and Sustainable” product certification for paints for interior use, which aims to combine all of these aspects while keeping compliance with minimum performance requirements as a fundamental point.

Catas offers various ‘CQA-Catas Quality Award’ schemes for indoor, outdoor, antibacterial, and sustainable coating systems in the paint sector. Catas is a joint stock company with shareholders including various organizations. Headquarters are in San Giovanni al Natisone, with additional offices in Brianza and Pesaro.
